Removing the disabled state

Hi,

I have made several quiz's, each include multiple choice or true and false questions. My issue is that they all have automated states for the answers, so when revisiting they seem to be going automatically to the disabled state.

I was wondering if there was a way to blanket delete automated states in quizs or if the only way is to delete this state for each answer of every question.

Any help will be appreciated,

Thanks,

Melissa

  • There is no way to delete the Disabled state from responses all at once. That would have to be done by editing the states for each response. However, it could be disastrous if you do that.

The Disabled state serves an important purpose: it prevents the user from changing the answer after the question has already been scored or during review. For example, when a question provides immediate feedback, the program automatically disables all the responses.

For graded questions, the "When revisiting" setting in Slide Properties defaults to "Automatically decide." With that setting, the program knows when to disable and enable the response buttons based on what's happening.

It is possible to adjust that setting.

      • If it is "Reset to initial state," the responses will be cleared and the user will be able to re-answer the question if they revisit it. That means their previous answer won't show even when reviewing the quiz.
      • If it is "Resume saved state," the responses will always be disabled, with the previously selected answer still showing as selected.

If you want users to be able to change answers before they submit the question for grading, you need to submit the answers all at once. This post has info about that: Submit Answers All at Once in Storyline 360 - E-Learning Heroes (articulate.com)

    Hi Judy,

Thank you for getting back to me,

For this quiz they will be able to try again if they do not pass, I am using 'reset to initial state' however this still disables the answers so these can't be selected when revisiting. This only seems to occur on multiple choice or true and false questions

  • I suggest you try "Automatically decide." As noted in my previous post, that tells the program to disable/enable response buttons as needed based on whether the user is (re-)taking the quiz or reviewing the quiz.

I originally tried using "Automatically decide" however this was also disabling the answers when re-taking.

What triggers are you using to let the user retake the quiz?

FYI: The "Reset results __" trigger is what tells the program to clear and enable the responses when it automatically decides how to handle revisiting.

Note: that trigger must come before the trigger that jumps to the 1st question slide. (A trigger can't run if the program has already left the slide.)  For example:

      I suggest you do this:

      • Set each question set to "Automatically decide."
      • On the Results slide:
        • Ensure you have the correct triggers in the correct order for retaking the quiz.
        • Ensure that all of the quiz questions are included in the Results.

After that, if it still doesn't work, I suggest you submit a case directly to Articulate. You can do that here: Contact Support for Help with Any Articulate E-Learning Course Development Software
