Rise: Born Accessiblity Testing Question about Markers in Labeled Graphics

Hello - We are undergoing internal accessibility testing for various e-learnings. We keep getting flagged on "Automatically moving content"such as the pulsing, growing halo border around markers in labeled graphic blocks in Rise. Is there any way in Rise to adjust the border around a marker so that it doesn't move? If not is there any way in Rise we can edit the amount of time it moves or allow the user to pause or stop movement.  If not, is this on the Rise roadmap for accessibility fixes? Specifically, please see below the accessibility testing language that our engineer's used and flagged during testing.

"Automatic moving content can pose numerous accessibility and usability barriers for a significant number of users."Moving content" refers to content in which a visible sense of motion is conveyed to the user. The semi-transparent border that continuously grows and shrinks in size around a marker in the labeled graphic block has this issue. Since these moving borders have very low contrast with their background, they are likely not necessary at all and can be removed. If moving content must appear on a page, at a minimum provide a method that will allow a user to pause or stop it, such as presenting a pause/stop control in a prominent position preceding the content.

Alternatively, make sure that the content stops moving after a maximum of five seconds. This length of time is considered tolerable for users to wait out, while still achieving the aim of getting the user's attention. For example, the carousel could automatically move one slide and then stop, but even this could be confusing for many users."

Thank you!

  • Hi Nikki!

It sounds like you had some questions about accessibility features in Rise 360! It looks like you've already opened a support case and my colleague Darwin has picked it up! You're in great hands working one on one with him! It looks like Darwin replied to your e-mail with some feedback and follow-up questions.

We'll continue this conversation over in your support case.
