SCORM Metadata With A Copy of Original File

Was helping someone with a Articulate Presenter issue and noticed the same thing in Storyline.  The person is working with a LMS where the metadata is important to be correct, especially the Title and Identifier for use with SCORM.

They are creating a whole series of courses and are using "Save as" copies of an original PowerPoint.  This issue is going to be major backtracking and fix problem.

With Presenter, and also Storyline, this SCORM metadata appears to default to using the name the file was originally created under the first time, even if it is now a copy with a totally different name.

This may be just me, but shouldn't this SCORM metadata default in Storyline to what the current name of the course is, even if it is a copy of another course?

  • I agree with you, I think it sticks when you first publish, so if you copy and rename a file it is stuck when it was last published.

I have a habit of repurposing files, so thanks for the heads up

I stumbled on this looking for any info on metadata.  This is my exact problem.  The articulate was originally published by a former coworker, and I updated and revised it giving it a different name as we are going to publish it in a new format (web based training in SAP).  Is there any updated 'fixes' for this?

  • Hi Heidi,

I still see the same behavior in Storyline update 4, and it looks as if you need to manually change the within the LMS Lesson SCORM Identification section on the "Reporting and Tracking" button. You're welcome to join Gerry in submitting a feature request.

  • I know this is a very old post but is this issue solved somehow? I am "saving as" a SL file to speed up the process of creating a series of courses, but the metadata remains the same as the original course (even using different titles for them). I am especially worried about the course identifier.

Can I change the course identifier to any sequence of letters/numbers to make sure they are different? Or do I need to follow a specific pattern?

      Hello Flavia!

The Identifier is a unique string of characters assigned by Storyline that your LMS uses to identify your course. If you're republishing a course that's already in your LMS, don't change the value in this field.

If you're not republishing the course, have you tried importing the slides into a new blank project? That should help create a new identifier.

Looking forward to hearing if that helps!
