Seeing 2-3 overlaid screens when recording in Storyline

Hello yet again everyone!!! Sorry if you're sick of me. I am seeing multiple screens on top of each other when I try to record a monitor. I've tried all of these things:

  1. Setting my screen resolution to the same % on both monitors. I set both to 150% and it didn't work, but if I set both to 100% I can't see the %$#@! laptop.
  2. Having storyline open on the same screen I want to record.
  3. Opening the software as an admin and rebooting.
  4. Beginning with a small recording window size , but before I hit Record, I move the dotted recording window line to where I want it. So it's even showing me what it plans to record but that doesn't happen.
  5. Recoring my entire screen. Then Selecting only one window (basically all of the recording options).

I haven't found anything else here, on Google, or on Chat GPT to fix this. Do I have to set all of my project sizes to the screen size i want to record? I don't want to do that, because I want 1920x1080 projects. Do I have to go into Design and switch the size per scene because I don't think it allows that.

Also, i can't even see anything in preview mode i can only see this in the slides themselves. It's just black slides in preview.

After 2 hours yesterday I finally got it to work by opening storyline and hitting Record Screen as the first thing I do (it then creates a new project for me with those slides), but that's a clugy way to work and I know it can do better. It's also a wonky project size.

The file i attached is even weirder because the red recording window is stuck on it and is still on my screen now.

  • Hi KristinFiore-3a!

Sorry to hear you've run into trouble with Storyline's screen recording tool! We're always happy to help!

When recording with multiple monitors in Storyline, it's helpful to keep in mind that Storyline doesn't support multi-monitor recording directly. However, you can record one screen at a time. To avoid issues, we suggest setting the display scaling to 100% (96 DPI), and using the same screen resolution across all monitors. This way, you can maintain your project size at 1920x1080 without having to adjust it for each scene.

However, if you're still experiencing these issues after those steps, please connect with our team through a support case. They'd be happy to continue troubleshooting with you!
