- Why did we use hotspot?
- Also, how is character not grouped with shape?

In Storyline, there are different ways to achieve the same effect. In this example, the characters' appearance changes based on the slider variable and triggers that change the state of each character from Normal to Selected. Since "Normal" and 'Selected" are built-in states, a user could also click the characters and by doing so change their state. Putting a hotspot (or a transparent object) on top of the characters prevents users from clicking them.

But how can we have a character into the shape without being grouped?
When I tried, it had to be grouped.

You can add items to object states. Have a look at the 2nd object in the attached file. I added the picture to the oval's state and also added a Selected state. Here is some info on states.

Ohh..and it was that simple. Thank you Michael :) Your inputs have given me confidence that I can do better with Storyline.
