States too sticky?

Does anybody else find that when working with the states of an element, for example a button, that they are a bit too sticky and you accidently change the order of the states?

Since Articulate released the ability to change the order of states within an element (maybe months/years ago?) I have found that I frequently change the order of states accidently.

I have a powerful PC and so I know that it is not a problem with my machines capacity to handle this, but I do find them laggy, and it is easy to accidentally pick-up a state and move it, when all you are trying to do is select it.

I think it would work much better if, to move a state, it required a longer mouse down before it allowed the state to be moved to a different location.

Right now, if I click and release and move my mouse quickly, it will drag the state.

I think my mistakes must occur when I select the wrong state, and intend to release and move to another state, and end up taking the state with me to another location.

SamHill, couldn't help chiming in— I face this almost always when working with states, particularly of buttons. The more I'm digging into Storyline, the more I am finding many of these little annoying bugs scattered throughout this software, and the more I get amazed at and appreciative of how polished and rounded PowerPoint is in comparison. Another example of this sort would be: the color I choose from the palette for a shape or font, ended up showing being the color from the same position of the next/previous row in the palette in slide view, which keeps me confused all the time. Pretty annoying!

      Hi ShamsShimul!

I'm sorry to hear you've run into this setback, when designing Buttons in Storyline 360!

      In your post, you mentioned:

Another example of this sort would be: the color I choose from the palette for a shape or font, ended up showing being the color from the same position of the next/previous row in the palette in slide view, which keeps me confused all the time.

I'm having some trouble replicating the same behavior on my end. Do you mind providing a screenshot, or screen recording of the issue as it occurs in real time? If you'd prefer to share that privately, please do so through a support case.

Thank you. Looking forward to hearing from you!

        Hi StevenBenassi,

Thanks for reaching out. First of all, I am sorry that I was not very accurate about that anomaly I was talking about. Let me clarify the problem statement: Colors are not showing accurately when attempting to customize the radio button with a custom theme color palette. I am encountering this only with radio button customization. I am dropping a short screen record here. This is happening with only the first four columns in the palette.

SamHill  Yes, I noticed that a while back. It can be somewhat of an annoyance: it's easy to inadvertently make changes to the wrong state... - but I am so used to it, it has become second nature for me to check before making any changes. Support may be able to come up with a resolve to this 'sticky' issue.

  • Hi SamHill!

Thank you for the feedback on how we can improve the authoring experience in Storyline 360!

I've shared your suggestions with our product team, and we'll be sure to notify you if we release a future enhancement that helps!

  • This is a super common issue. I enter the states. Modify one, and then click on another and for some odd reason I've now dragged that state into another position. I am aware it really doesn't matter what order my Normal, Hover, Selected, etc are in, but it is visually annoying when I revisit a button to find Normal now at the end of the states.

  • I agree and in most cases is just an annoyance, unless you are working fast and mistakenly edit the wrong state.

I propose a simpler solution, when you open the states tab you are able to edit any of the states without pressing the edit button, this will save time (I dont ever use edit just double click) and then the button becomes rearrange.
