states/triggers not working as expected when slide is adjusted on seekbar

Hi everyone. I have a slide where the topics "highlight" or change color when it is mentioned in the audio. When it moves on to the next topic, the previous topic goes back to its original color. 

Everything works great until you start the slide over or navigate to a different part of the seekbar. Then, if you have previously seen the color change for that topic, it stays on screen and it all gets messed up. Am I missing something with the states and triggers? I am using cue points if that makes a difference.  Do I need variables to accomplish this?
