Story view horizontal vs. vertical -- how can I change it back to horizontal

I've searched, but haven't found this exact problem listed.  I am removing custom next/previous buttons from each page of a course and building them into the slide master.  So now the trigger for the next/previous buttons are in the slide master.  They work fine.  I understand I will have to change the last slide of a scene to jump to next scene rather than next slide.

The problem is that my story view jumped from vertical to horizontal.  This is a scrolling nightmare when you are editing slides.  If you want to open another slide to edit, you have to scroll too much because they no longer appear vertically on the left side of the page. (See screen shot)

Is there a way to make the story view revert back to vertical when using the slide master for next/previous buttons?

Thank you!

I found a work-around.  I can easily highlight all the thumbnails and turn on the system generated prev/next buttons.  That puts the link back and makes the story view vertical.  Then all I have to do is turn those back off before I publish.

you are a  Genius.. thanks!....it does not really make sense.. i have next bottuns in every slide, but that can not understand  storyline.. i was getting crazz with that horizontal view

  • Hi Jan,

The story view layout is based on the slide triggers as you'll see the little arrows connecting the slide to the next slide. If you've set up triggers for custom next buttons on a slide master, there won't be a way to showcase the slides in a vertical view as they're not "connected" using normal slide triggers. Here is more information on how the story view set up works.

  • No problem Jan and just an FYI replying via email includes your signature here as well. You can edit the post if you'd like to remove that.
