Storyline 360 - Feedback Master

If a layer is dimming the slide and the Player, plus preventing interacting with anything except the layer, the Slide Layer Properties are set to present as a Dialog.
The solution is to change that setting so it presents as a Layer.
If a layer is dimming only the slide, it has a semi-transparent background. The solution is to change the background to No Fill.
As I understand it, the functionality for creating a Try Again layer includes inserting the standard feedback text, naming a button "Try Again," and giving that button a trigger that hides the layer. Normally, it does that with the placeholders on the Feedback Master Try Again Layout.
But, as you've seen, if those placeholders aren't on the layout, the program creates new text boxes and a new button, because it needs someplace to put the programmed elements.
Thus, even if you set up the layout with just the X you want, you'll have to delete the 3 automatically inserted elements from every new Try Again layer.
Another option: Create a "set up" slide for each type of question you typically use. Adjust its Try Again layer as desired, including the removal of the default elements. Then, instead of inserting new question slides, duplicate the set-up slide(s).
FYI: That's the sort of slide I usually put in an extra "Storage" scene, so they're easy to find—and easy to delete (or just hide) when the project is published.
