Storyline 360 Morph tool affecting objects that it shouldn't

I have a group of slides set up with Morph transition between each. I have several items that I don't want included in the transition. Mainly the Navigation bar and buttons.
The navigation bar and buttons on every slide has a different object name. I even tried the idea of having a hidden object grouped with the object to make sure a new name is assigned.
The objects are in the exact same place on every slide so there shouldn't be any movement, but the bar and buttons flash with every transition. What am I missing?

  • You may be experiencing what is demonstrated here. (you can post your example project for more feedback).

Notice the two stationary objects. The one in the top right flickers between slides, while the one in the bottom right remains steady. The difference is the Morph ID. The top right objects have different Morph IDs. As a result, they fade out partially between slides. The bottom right objects have identical Morph IDs, so they remain fully visible between slides. The Morph ID can be seen in the context menu of the slide object (when right clicking on the bounding box).

The Morph ID is in the parentheses, in the top line. If you duplicate a slide, all of the objects will be recreated with duplicate Morph IDs. If you copy a new object and duplicate or paste it onto another slide (e.g., CTRL-SHIFT-D or CTRL-V), it will also (usually) get a duplicate Morph ID. If you create a new identical object on the other slide, it will have a different Morph ID. Also, if you copy or duplicate an object on the same slide it will normally get a new unique Morph ID, so don't copy it on the same slide before moving it to the new slide unless you want a new Morph ID.

Morph IDs link objects between slides. There should be only one object on a given slide with the same Morph ID. Multiples will break the morph transition. If things do not behave as you expect, check the IDs. You can't edit the Morph ID, so if they become unlinked or corrupt,  you have to manually delete and copy/duplicate objects, repositioning them where they should go, to get a new linked pair.

The example project is attached. Perhaps this will help with your problem.

  • Thank you so much, Nathan! That was a huge help and addressed about half of my issues.
Do you know if there is a limitation related to objects having multiple objects on a state? I use custom previous and next buttons. They are Circle shapes and then I added an icon on the Normal state. That seems to be the main one that is keeping me from copy/pasting and maintaining the ID number. My Home icon has multiple states but it is the same object with only a size change. That one is fine so I'm thinking the multiple objects is the issue. Thoughts?

My other issue is objects showing up out of order. My navigation bar is at the top of the list on the timeline. It has the same ID on every slide so it is stationary. I have another object at the bottom of the list in the timeline. It has the same ID and does successfully morph from one slide to the next. The problem is that during the transition, that bottom position object seems to ignore the list and jumps to the top. So for that brief instance of transition, the bottom object shows on top of the navigation bar. Does that make sense?

Any thoughts? I'll work on cleaning up a version of my slides that I can share, but thought I would ask in the mean time.

Sorry, not sure about the questions you asked. I don't really use the morph feature so I'm not up on the application details. I know if you start adding anything more complex than a color or position/size change, the morph just aborts into a fade effect. Adding something to a state would likely kill the morph effect.

I did try morphing an object through another stationary object higher up on the timeline. It seemed to work as expected (stacking order was correct). It may depend upon the specific objects being used, or how they are displayed on the slide.

If you get a sample posted that illustrates the problems you describe, then we can consider them more closely.
