Storyline 360 Survey "Fail" in Workday

I'm looking for reasons why Workday would return a "You failed" notification (see full message in red below) to learners who start a Storyline survey but close the  Articulate player window before completing it.

Background

One of my developers created a survey in Articulate Storyline  360 that utilizes branching (e.g. if learner selects A and C on slide one, they are presented with questions from scene 1 and scene 3). All question screens were created using the Storyline  survey question type templates.

SCORM tracking and reporting is set to Complete/Incomplete, and the .story file is set to retain answers and resume where the user left off if they exit before completing.

We are publishing this survey as a stand-alone lesson in Workday.

Testing in Workday:

  • If the user completes the survey, they receive a notification from Workday: "You successfully completed this course."

  • If the user closes the Articulate player before finishing the survey, they receive a notification from Workday: "You Failed This Packaged Content Lesson. You must retake this lesson to improver your results and successfully complete this lesson."

Note that when the learner who exits the player before finishing clicks Resume Course in Workday the survey returns them to the place where they stopped and does retain their answers from the previous session. They also get the Successful Completion message when they finish the survey.

If you have experience with integrating Storyline and Workday around this topic I'd appreciate any insights, observations, or suggestions you may have. Thanks!

  • To avoid confusing our learners with the "Fail" message, we would expect Workday to display a message similar to this: "You have not completed this lesson. Please resume the lesson to complete it."
