Storyline 360 UI Still Pixelated on High-DPI Display – Any Updates?
Hi everyone,
I’m running Storyline 360 on a high-resolution laptop (Windows, recommended DPI is 200%), and I’m struggling with the pixelated, blurry UI issue. The text and icons appear soft or fuzzy, which makes it difficult to read and work comfortably.
I’ve already tried some of the common fixes:
- Manually changing my display scaling to 100% (everything becomes sharp, but way too small to use).
- Enabling the “Override high DPI scaling behavior” option in the app properties.
Unfortunately, both make the interface unreadably tiny. I came across one thread 6 years ago, and another thread 9 years ago and I’m wondering:
👉 Is anyone still dealing with this issue in 2025?
👉 Has Articulate made any updates to improve high-DPI support?
Would love to hear if anyone has found a better workaround or solution. Thanks in advance!

It looks pretty crisp to me when I view your image on my 4K screen. I do admit it does look a bit pixellated when I swap to my Dell 4K external monitor, but it's not at all soft or blurry.
I use Parallels and even update I have to recalibrate the Display Settings on my Window 11 virtual machine. For me, the perfect setting is 3278 x 2097 (Recommended) at a scale of 100%.
UI's are generally designed for 100% use.
Find a Display Resolution in your settings that works at 100% and gives you enough screen real estate to function, without straining your eyes.
...
Oh, I just saw that you are using a HD laptop (not 4K) so I think my advice to you is completely irrelevant. Apologies. The reason I upgraded to 4K screens was that the interface of Storyline takes up so much screen real estate that the 'stage' area would be tiny, especially if I wanted to view numerous items in the timeline.
Ignore the (Recommended) setting that Windows tells you. See if 150% or 125% suits you better.
Invest in a high resolution external monitor. I have found that the Espresso 17" 4K screen is incredible. Pricey, but worth it if you work on the move.
Or...
think about getting glasses. I'm not being funny. There comes a time in everyone's life - and I refuse to operate at 200%. :)

Ignore the (Recommended) setting that Windows tells you. See if 150% or 125% suits you better.
This would cause stair-stepping nearest-neighbour scaling, making it particularly difficult to adjust precise alignment by eye.
Since Storyline isn't aware of the actual resolution of the display, at least 200% scaling just makes it pixellated, as opposed to unevenly pixellated.
UI's are generally designed to be resolution-independent. At least the viewer and any text should render at native resolution, menu icons are less of a big deal.
Hi MelodyL!
Glad to see the community has been sharing their insight with you!
I noticed you've also opened a support case, being handled by my teammate, Mark. It looks like he just replied to your e-mail, sharing additional feedback on Storyline's compatibility with high resolution monitors.
I also wanted to highlight that we are tracking a feature request to enhance Storyline's support of high resolution displays. I've included your voice in that request!
We'll be sure to notify you if this feature makes it to our product roadmap.

I have been struggling with this as well. My 11 year old FHD 1920 x 1200 laptop is an exceptionally crisp display for Articulate than any new laptop out there I have tried. Most new laptops ship at 150% and if you set to 100% where many apps looks the best: Articulate, Quickbooks, Adobe the screen is too small to be usable. You can play with the Compatibility settings for each app, but I have not had good luck with that either. Storyline just looks fuzzy no matter what. From what I understand the apps need to be optimized for the new high res machines coming out. Microsoft products look good at 150% but not many other apps from what I have found. I have tried 7 different laptops (currently using Alienware 18 Area 51) and debating about the Razer Blade 18 since it has a dual display, UHD and FHD switching.

This problem has been around for so long, I really doubt it will ever be fixed. Storyline (even the latest x64 version) simply doesn't have a resolution-independent interface. Here's a comparison of Microsoft Edge and Storyline 360 in Parallels (on the latest of version of everything -- MacOS, Parallels, Win11, Storyline). The screenshot is on a 5K LG monitor and is magnified to show the differences between a modern app -- MS Edge -- and Storyline). Sadly, no amount of tweaking of the display settings is going to fix this.
I'm attaching the file so you can (hopefully) view the image at full resolution to see the difference.
