Storyline Modern Player "Locked" view behaves unexpectedly

When I first saw that they had introduced the "Locked" view to the Modern Player, I was very excited!  It looked like it was taking the best parts of the Modern Player and Classic Player and merging them together, giving us more controls as authors to design courses the way we want.

However, when I went to use it for the first time, I found that it had some unexpected behavior. At the time, I thought that it was just a bug with a new feature and that it would be fixed eventually.  But I'm still seeing the issue today, hence my post.

My chief complaint is that using the Modern: "Lock player size to fit browser" player  size causes a huge unnecessary gap at the bottom of the player and shrinks the content to smaller than it needs to be.  [See Attachment: '01a Modern Locked.png']

Note: I changed the player color to an ugly green to help show where the content stops and the player starts.

And here's a version with the CC turned on.

Compare that to the other player size option ("Scale player to fill browser"), and you'll see what I mean. [See Attachment: '02 Modern Fill.png']

The seekbar and other controls at the bottom are much closer to the bottom of the content window.  The CC overlaps the content, as I would expect it to.

Finally, this is a mockup of what I would EXPECT it to look like:

I'm hoping the Articulate Team can help shed light on this or fix the bug.

  • Hi AdamTrosper!

Sorry to hear you're having issues with Storyline's Player option "Lock player size to fit browser".

I see that you're currently working with my colleague Ian, through a support case. Smart move! It looks like he is currently testing your .story file, and should be following up with you shortly.

We can continue the conversation there to keep all information in one place!
