Storyline Motion Path End Point
I think that changing the path shape by repositioning the endpoint is limited to lines, curves and arcs. Other more complex shapes like freeform and scribble still seem to be limited to resizing the whole set path.
I don't believe the motion paths support partial travel. They go from beginning to end at the prescribed rate with applied easing. You options, once drawn, are to resize the whole path, or change direction. Of course, you can always redraw the path.
If you want to adjust the stopping point, you would need to draw multiple contiguous path segments and play the animations in sequence to your desired end.
If you wanted to get crazy, you could do what you want by slightly modifying this solution.

That might be a bit much for what you want to achieve however.
