Storyline player painfully slow to open

Two years later, what is the current status of this problem?  Most of the time when I go into the Player menu it crashes my entire Windows 10 virtualization with Oracle Dropbox.  I don't remember this happening with SL2.  Using the latest version of SL3.

Edit: The worst is when you try to add attachments to the Resource section.  The Windows File Explorer becomes painfully slow, it can hardly capture clicks or keyboard cursor commands to move around.  I can also confirm that the problem occurs with a brand new project, so the issue is not the project itself that I'm working on.
