Text-to-Speech in Storyline & Rise

Hi everyone

Recently, I created a conversation in Engagement 360 and then edited it in Storyline 360 by adding text-to-speech. My goal is to use it in Rise 360.

My Problem now is that the audio would automatically play even with no click on the > button.  Previewing in Rise 360, even the user has not complete the previous blocks, the audio is playing automatically.

What could I do to solve it? Thanks.

here is the link for the conversation. https://360.articulate.com/review/content/1f0c9cbb-ba44-45b2-9006-ad30499330cc/review

  • I would recommend adding an additional slide at the beginning of your Storyline file that has no audio on it.  We often add a slide with a "play icon" on it.  That icon has a trigger to jump to the next slide, where your audio will begin.

  • I had also come across this problem recently.  I wanted to find a solution to the user having to click something, so I did the following instead:

    • duplicated the slide;
    • on the first slide
      1. Removed all of the triggers
      2. Inserted a square shape
      3. Enlarged the shape by dragging it over the entire slide
      4. Changed the Shape Fill to ‘No fill’ and the Shape Outline to ‘No Outline’
      5. Added a trigger to Rectangle 1 to:

    Jump to slide next slide
    When the user hovers over Rectangle 1

    This seems to work, but can I just check please whether this could cause any issues for any users and, if so, what else could I do to get around this?

    Thanks.

  • Hi Tracy,

    An issue with the using a hover state is that it likely won't work if the learner is using a mobile device or if they are using a screen reader. This may or may not matter depending on your specific use case but it is something you or others may need to be aware of.

  • Hi Cary,

    Yes, I had thought of these issues too.  Since I posted the above yesterday afternoon I found a better solution that seems to work really well:

    1. duplicate the slide;

    2. on the first slide
      1. Remove all of the audio
      2. Add a trigger to the first slide to: Jump to slide 'next slide' when the timeline starts on this slide
