This project is invalid or corrupt......
I updated Storyline due to the latest release. I then attempted to open a file I had been working on just previous to this release and now I receive the error message - "This project is invalid or corrupt and cannot be opened. It may have been created in an earlier version of Storyline."
Please let me know if there is a fix here, I'm under a time constraint and don't need this headache with this course.

Capture files = screen recordings....
Here's my development process...
I start a new project
Record my screens using Screen Record
Because I'm creating software training, I usually capture more than one task at a time.
Then, I start a new project and import just the screens for that task
It's during the development of that lesson that I run into the corruption issues. I'll be deleting a layer and get a "something went wrong" screen and provide what I was doing when it happened. I have to close out of Storyline, come back in and that's when I get the "this project is invalid..." message. That 's when I go back, create a new project and import the screen captures again.
It's been happening more frequently, so I'll look into repairing the software.

Hi Susan,
So sorry you're dealing with this error. Did you find that Leslie's tip on repairing the software helped?
If you're still running into the issue, feel free to reach out to one of our support engineers. They'll be able to take a closer look into your file and find the root cause of the problem to get you back up and running!

Ren,
It's just not one file but many. Since this post I have uninstalled and
reinstalled Storyline three times. I just tried to preview a scene and got
the message, "oops something went wrong". This is when I start getting the,
" This project is invalid or corrupt..." I have been working on the same
assessment file for the last 3-4 hours and haven't been able to get passed
a preview of the scene. Just as I expected, trying to open the file that
just crashed is now corrupt.Susan
Thanks for the additional information, Susan.
I've opened a support case on your behalf with all of the information you've provided here and you should be hearing from someone soon.

Hi everyone,
Today when trying to resize a video in my (almost completed) .story file, and articulate crashed. Unfortunately, when I reopened, I encountered the dreaded "this project is invalid or corrupt." I was able to restore a version from a week ago via the recovery feature Ashely mentioned above, but I seem to have lost 50 or so slides worth of animations and interactions (which for me is a ton of work!). I've tried restarting, restoring .tmp files from the %appdata% folder, I've tried using Windows to "Restore previous versions" but to no avail. I thought I was on to something when I tried to import the corrupted .stroy file into a new project as I could see all the slides and select which to import, but when I try to import, I get "the file is being used by another process or you do not have the proper security permission to access." See attached screenshot.
Am I out of luck? Anyone willing to open my project and see if there's any way to save it? Please?I'm so very disheartened that all of my work is gone. Any help or encouragement is much appreciated.

Hi Nick
is the file on your local drive? or were you working from a network or external drive?
- NickHollingerCommunity Member
It was my local drive–just saved on my desktop.

Sorry Nick, I tried to create a new project and import in and got the same error message. I would log a support ticket and see if the Articulate guys can wave their magic wand. The fact you can see the slides to import is a step ahead of what normally happens - normally that error message shows up first...so fingers crossed.

You've given me hope, thanks much Wendy!

I just had this issue I found this post from years ago. Have been working in the file for the last few hours and now it gives me the corrupt message and I can't open it. Was this bug ever fixed?

Hi Matthew,
Sorry to hear you're running into this corrupt file message! It looks like you got in touch with our support team, and my teammate, Gerald, was able to confirm the same error.
We do recommend disabling the automatic sync of your files to a cloud storage drive to avoid erratic issues like file corruption. You can read other tips on this topic here.

This problem is STILL an issue. My files were perfectly fine and then boom...same corrupt message. The support folks just send me emails that have no solutions. Really horrible that this is STILL so unstable.

Hi Yawen!
I'm happy to help! It looks like you're importing a PowerPoint into Storyline, is this right?
Here are a few troubleshooting steps to get us started:
- Which version of Storyline are you using?
- Which version of PowerPoint are you using?
- Are you able to open the project in PowerPoint without hitting any errors?
- Can you try saving the PowerPoint to your Documents folder, and then import into Storyline?
You can also share your file with us for further troubleshooting. You can either share it here in this discussion by using the "Add Attachment" button or you can upload it to us by using this private upload link. Either way, we'll test the file and share our findings!
