This project is invalid or corrupt......

I updated Storyline due to the latest release.  I then attempted to open a file I had been working on just previous to this release and now I receive the error message - "This project is invalid or corrupt and cannot be opened.  It may have been created in an earlier version of Storyline."

Please let me know if there is a fix here, I'm under a time constraint and don't need this headache with this course.

  • you can check the .story file with 7z or another zip program -> open archiv

if it look like this, your data are lost (you need an older/newer backup)

if you see 4 folder and 1 file you can repair the file possibly with winrar

      Hello Jürgen
Thank you for your reply. What if i dont have access and cant install 7zip or WinRar?

  • rename the .story to .zip and open it with windows

but you should never do this with zip files from unknown sources!

I'm facing the same problem. The course was developed by another person on his personal computer. He doesn't work with us anymore. And my task is to edit the course, but I can't open the file - he writes that it is damaged. And when importing slides, an error also comes out. What to do?

      Hi Nikita,

I'm really sorry to hear about your project file.

There isn't a way to restore a file that's corrupted, but there may still be some content that can be recovered from the project file. Would you be willing to share a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a support case so we can take a look? We'll delete it when we're done troubleshooting!

You can check out this article which explains common causes of file corruption as well as how to avoid them to safeguard your files moving forward.
