This project is invalid or corrupt......
I updated Storyline due to the latest release. I then attempted to open a file I had been working on just previous to this release and now I receive the error message - "This project is invalid or corrupt and cannot be opened. It may have been created in an earlier version of Storyline."
Please let me know if there is a fix here, I'm under a time constraint and don't need this headache with this course.

Hi,
i had the same issue, with some hard moment.
Then I solved by:
- making a copy of the .story file
- rename and save it as a .storytemplate file
- open a new SL2 project
- select import from Storyline
- import the .storytemplate
Hope this will help someone of you also..
Cheers,
Gabriele

Hi Gabriele,
I know this thread is 3 years old but may i ask how you copied the file and saved it as a .storytemplate file?
I cannot open the file so cannot save it using save as option.
Is there a way of doing this by not opening the file?
Actually i saved my file yesterday and there must have been an error and it saved a copy instead. Now when open the main file this is the error i get (shown in image 'Error Message' and when i open the saved copy file, I get an error as shown in the 'Error Message 2'.
Do you think your method will work in my case?

Hi there
I had the invalid/ corrupt message come through when I tried to open a project I have been working on. Thanks for the post Muhammed, the restore trick worked perfectly.
I am glad the community is here otherwise I would have had to start again. I hope that this will not be an ongoing problem.

I have been consistently getting the error with story files that have videos embedded. The restore has been working but I fear that there may be a bug. Any ideas.
Hi all,
Thanks for sharing the additional information here on how you've been able to restore your file. As a reminder, you'll want to ensure you're following along with the guidelines here for working on project files.
Importing into a new file is also a good way to resolve some odd behavior and you'll want to follow the steps outlined here.

Hello,
All of the projects I´ve uploades videos to have been corrupted. Yesterday it was one file, so I moved all of my projects and the videos to my desktop, since I´ve read that storing them in your network can cause this. This happends anyway. None of the suggestions works. Why does this happend even thought just because I upload videos? I can´t use any of my projects and I don´t have time to rebuild them. Thanks for your answer.

Hi,
I also just got the same error 'This project is invalid or currupt and cannot be opened. It may have been created in earlier version of Storyline.'
Tried all the above options: import, directory path - Nothing is helping me.
Can somebody suggest how can I get my course scenes back, have a deadline and don't want to re-do it all over again. Please help...

Our problem was fixed a long time ago by deleting a font we had gotten on
google fonts. Apparently SL didn't like that font. When we got rid of
it-everything saved fine. It was Oswald in our case but it may be a font
that is corrupted, look in your fonts and see if you have any that you may
be using that are corrupt. That's all I know-hope this helps.
Thanks for sharing Jeff :)
Prardhana - I cannot access or import your file.
Unfortunately, once a .STORY file becomes unusable, it's no longer recoverable.
When creating, editing, or publishing a Storyline project, we recommend working from your local hard drive (typically your C: drive). Working from a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, such as file corruption, an inability to save changes you've made to your project, and loss of resources.
Here's a helpful article for you.
Glad you were able to get some assistance here Nina! Thanks for sharing :)
Glad this thread helped you out Wanda, and to prevent future file corruption, I'd look at ensuring you're working on projects as described here.

I'm having the same issue after getting a new computer and copying all my files to the new computer. Nothing mentioned earlier in any of the strings works. Thank you for the help.
Hi John! I am unable to open your project file and the .zip file states that it is invalid.
Are you still able to open the files on the other computer? If so, you may consider utilizing the collaborative workflow to move the files.

The motherboard fried on the other computer and I was able to salvage the hard drive and transfer the information to the new computer. All the files seem to work from the hard drive except the Articulate files so it almost seems like they needed something from the old computer for them to work.
Hi John! You are welcome to reach out to our support team to see if there is a possible resolution, but typically corruption cannot be corrected.

Thanks for testing it out. I had a really good tech try and figure it out to no avail. A have the published file on a drive and it works great. Too bad it can't be unpublished.
