Timeline preview is SLOW and jumpy

Has anyone experienced the slow timeline preview when using the play button in the timeline pane (bottom left)?  I have like 4 objects in my slide and it takes 5 seconds for the preview to play.

Thanks for your message Leslie but as this thread and my "scrubbing the timeline" own thread are nearly five years old, what can we exp...wait, I already said this last year... and probably the year before.

I won't hold my breath...
