Try Mode and Hint Captions

Navigate to the Hint Caption layer (Right panel at bottom under Slide Layers)

Select the caption on your timeline and and turn off the Exit animation.

Next, right click the caption on your timeline and set it to Show Until End

Let me know if that works for you.

Hi Richard and thanks for the quick reply.  The exit animation was off, but I previously tried 'Show Until End' and it didn't work.  After the end of the timeline, the caption disappears.

What I did do though is add a trigger to pause the timeline after 1 second, which works!  Yeah!

Another question while I have you....Can you help  me set up triggers so that the user doesn't have to type correctly or see the Try Again message.  This is technical training for pharmacies so the actual text doesn't matter.

Any help is appreciated.

I would love to assist but I'm not around a computer for the rest of today. I am out running Christmas errands if you know what I mean. Perhaps someone else in the community is sitting at their desktop computer and can jump in and offer a helping hand faster than I can today?

Hi Richard. I'm using Try mode to teach pharmacies how to perform end-to-end tasks in our software.  So the accuracy of the text they need to enter isn't really important.  How do I set up variables so that when they type and then select 'Enter', the next screen displays without the 'Try Again' message ever appearing?

There may be other ways to do this; let's see what others post. In the meantime, I don't create many simulations in Articulate for my clients, but let's see what we can do.

From my recollection, the Try Again layer is created when the learner is allowed multiple attempts to type information in the slide.  So, you could go to the slide that includes the text box variable and select Form View. Once in Form View, you could change the Attempts to 1 and the Try Again layer will disappear.

To remove the multiple acceptable answers, change Score to None

Next, if you don't want the user to receive Correct layer feedback, set Feedback to None

That should accomplish your goal. I don't think you need to create more variables.

Richard, you are a life saver - it worked!  Thanks so much.

What is the Submit Keys: field used for?  Is there a way to have to user select 'Tab' to submit the answer instead of the Enter key? I think I read that the Enter key acts as Submit to move forward, but in our software the learner would enter text and then select Tab.

Is there a way to prevent the Enter key from advancing to the next slide?  I'm having the same issue.  I have changed the Submit key to Tab, but Enter is still advancing to the next slide and not showing the Try Again layer like it should.

We need to emphasize that in their actual software they need to use Tab and not Enter, but in Storyline it is allowing them to use Enter to move to the next slide.

The Enter key has a reserved function in Storyline 360, which you can read about here:

Part of its reserved function is server as a submit button for certain question slides, and there's currently no way to change this behavior. I’ll be happy to pass your thoughts on to our product team, but you can also feel free to detail them more through a feature request!
