Turning icons into buttons that open a new slide or a little pop-out
Hey there. New to this program. Can't seem to find out how to use an icon to trigger an action like a new window or slide. I have a series of images on a slide an I want the learner to be able to click on each icon and have more information appear. Can I turn a icon into a button or do I have to place the icon on top of a button and make the button transparent so that the learner only sees the icon. Thanks

Just found out how to do it. There is a trigger icon in the interactive objects section under insert.
OK. I was able to create a trigger off of the icon but I just noticed that only a "part" of the icon is clickable? I have to position the mouse pointer in just the right area of the icon to change it to a hand with the finger pointer.

It sounds like you're on the right track! Since icons are grouped objects, you can only click/hover over the original parts of the icon. Not to worry, this is a quick fix! Just add a transparent rectangle behind the object. Here's what it looks like!

Seems as though your sample file got moved. I'd be very interested in seeing your fix. I can't wrap my head around how adding a "transparent" rectangle object behind the icon will solve this.

Hotspots are simpler. They are automatically invisible and can have different shapes. Just put it over the icon. Then put the trigger on the hotspot instead of the icon. I use them a lot when I have an image and also words beside it - the hotspot covers both with one trigger.
But then you can't have states

That is correct, you can't use states with hotspots. Let me know if there is anything we can help with!
Personally, I would set up all the states in Illustrator as artboards. Then you can save them all in one fell swoop at different sizes. A little bit of prep for outside Storyline can ensure that your assets work well.
