Unable to implement a background colour

I noticed that you are using a Slide Master in your course. If a slide master has background graphics that you don't want to include on a specific slide, right-click on the slide, select format background, and then mark the box to Hide background graphics.

This will allow you to customize the background color for individual slides, even if a slide layout has been applied.
