Unable to resize marker text box after initial customization?? (SL2)
Hmmm ... thought I understood how markers worked, apparently not or there's a bug.
I insert a marker, add title and text, resize the text box etc. no problem. However, after that intial customization I can NOT return and resize the text box? No matter what I try I can't get the resize handles to reappear. I can reposition the text box, add/delete text, but can no longer resize it?
Am I missing something ultra-fundamental here?
Thanks!

Seven years on and this issue persists? The corner solution works, but for people on my team new to Storyline, this is a frustrating issue for them. Everyone on my team has the same issue as everyone above ... you can only easily adjust the textbox for markers once. Afterwards, the ability to adjust the box size seemingly disappears, unless you know to find the very tiny sweet spot in the corner. Very odd that this issue still persists when it's so easily reproduced and was identified over 2,500 days ago.

I have to agree! I am running in the same issue right now. Having to delete and redo all the markers and related triggers on the page.
Hi Solange,
Thanks for reaching out and I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue!
If you're comfortable sharing your file with us I'd be happy to take a closer look at what's going on. You can upload it here or share it privately in a support case. We'll delete it from our systems once troubleshooting is complete!

Sorry, I deleted it and rebuilt it without markers.

Using most updated version of Storyline 360 and still running into the same issues as above. other than the corner handle trick will there be a solution to the bug?
Hi Lisa!
Sorry to hear you've also run into this setback!
It would be helpful to take a closer look at the .story file you've built out so far. Would you be comfortable sharing a copy here in the discussion or privately through a support case?
Looking forward to hearing from you!

I confirm that this is still an issue, I spent a while this morning trying to drag marker pop outs to new shapes.
I have attached triggers to the markers that make other things appear and disappear on the slide and I didn't want to have to redo the triggers after deleting and reinserting the marker.
Here is what I did to edit the markers:
- Click on the marker
- Under Marker Tools click "Format"
- Click "Change Icon"
- Change the marker to any other icon
- Resize the pop out as desired
- Change the marker back to the original
This appears to not work every time, I had to follow the above steps multiple times for a couple of edits.
Markers are very handy. However, this limitation has led me to not use them much. But I have a project going now where they are the best solution, so I spent some time playing with them.
Hi John,
This looks like an issue that keeps popping up for some users so I'd like to check if specific formatting options done to a marker are what causes the behavior to appear. On my end, I tried replicating it on a new project file, but I was unable to get the small white boxes to disappear with a marker that had basic formatting applied to it.
Would you be willing to share a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a support case so we can take a closer look at what's happening? We'll delete it when we're done testing!

I just submitted a case.
Hi John,
Great call opening a support case! I see that you're working with our colleague Philam. You're in excellent hands.
We'll continue the conversation over in your case.
Have a wonderful weekend!

I am having the same issue. I am using the latest version of SL, and the corner trick is not working. I have tried all the tips mentioned in this article, but nothing works. Does anyone have a solution other than not using markers?
Hi Francis,
Sorry to hear that you ran into this issue. I looked at John's case and our support engineers found that the behavior might be file-specific since they were unable to replicate it on their end. I'd recommend opening a case with our support team and sharing your project file for testing so we can check what's happening.

Per your tech support: "
Resizing the labels to fit larger text isn't currently supported but we're currently tracking requests for it. I've added your case to our report so our developers can prioritize accordingly. I’ll let you know if this feature becomes available."- John_MCommunity Member
Different from what I heard from tech support.

Can you share what they told you? Their response to me was just within the last week, so it would be good to know if we are getting different solutions.

I sent them a copy of my project file. After looking at it I was told that the reason that the marker flyouts were unable to be resized was because I had created a "visited" state for the markers. Once that state was deleted they resized. The "visited" state is integral to what I am trying to do, so I am keeping it and just living with the uneditable flyouts.

Thank you this was a very helpful comment!

Still running into this issue, and the additional issue of clicking on a marker and having no box pop up to type in. I resolved the latter issue by duplicating the slide. I resolved the former issue with the advice posted in 2018 by Duane Knudsen. Thanks very much, Duane, for your enduring solution to what appears to be an enduring issue. lol
