Using 3D Models

There are some really interesting possibilities for using 3D images for learning! The community might have some new sources to add, but there were some useful ones mentioned in the comments on this past e-learning challenge.

Hi Alicia! I just wanted to share a few additional resources that helped me to create the 3D project Tom shared. When I first started that project, I quickly learned that not all 3D file formats I found online seamlessly worked in PPT. I have since found this resource from Microsoft. It includes a table of the supported 3D file formats. I haven’t tried using 3D models in Photoshop yet. If you do end up using PPT, here are some tips Microsoft shared on getting creative with 3D models.

As for where to find 3D images, I only know a few other possible options.

• Sketchfab
• 3DExport
• Turbosquid
• cgtrader

Of course, it’s not guaranteed the files will work in PPT or you’ll find exactly what you need because the options can be a bit limited. Either way, if you end up finding something that works, you’ll want to make sure you check the copyright and attribution requirements before adding them to your projects.

I made the model myself using Blender.  If anyone is thinking of doing the same, Microsoft has this document which details the requirements for 3D models - file formats and supported materials.

Thanks Sarah :) I really love Blender modelling so it's useful to be able to use it in a nice way. It would be great if you could have a more interactive labelled 3D model directly in Storyline but in the meantime, this is a useful technique.
