I'm very sorry to hear about your follows and bookmarks. Not all existing features were carried over when we moved this community over to the platform we are currently using. You can read about the changes and hurdles we encountered during the move here:
You can check to see if you are still subscribed to any thread by visiting the notification section. And, it's never too late to start rebuilding your followed content by clicking on this icon whenever you find a thread with ideas you'd like to revisit.

how can you find things you've followed? I don't see where I can access any of those pages unless someone makes a new comment on it. I just want things to reference back on my own. not understanding how to do that.

You can access a listing of your followed threads via Account Menu > My Settings > Follows & Notifications.
