Where is the audio that was captured during screen recording?
Lauren,
Thank you for that information! I was able to insert the screen recording into a single slide and can now hear the discussion, but it is not a separate track on the timeline.
I was, however, able to use the video edit feature, create closed captions and then export the text. So I ended up getting the information I wanted, just now necessarily how you laid it out for me.
Hi DougB72! When you insert a screen recording as Step-by-Step slides, Storyline only adds the screen frames and interactions. The original recording (including the audio) stays attached to the screen recording itself. That’s why you can hear it in Action Fine Tuning, but not during slide preview.
To access the audio:
- Go to Insert → Screen Recording
- Select your existing recording
- Choose Video on a single slide
When you insert it this way, the narration appears on the timeline and plays normally. From there, you can right-click the audio track and export it, then add it to the slides where you need it.
So the audio is still part of the recording. It just isn’t placed on the slide timelines when Storyline converts the recording into step-by-step slides.

Thank you for returning to share how you achieved this, DougB72! I'm sure others will find value in this setup too!
