Why is the button I created in a layer grayed out?
The result is: When I Preview my course the button does not display at all so I cannot click on the button. I've seen tutorials and all their layers display somehow. Is there a setting I need to set? This is the first time I've opened Storyline. I know in Photoshop there's a lot of recommended settings to set before using it for the first time.

You may have set the initial state in the button to hidden. Make sure it's set to normal
You will need a trigger to show the layer before you can see anything on it, The button may be slid to the right on the timeline, and if so, it won't appear until that time is reached.
