Woah! Merge Shapes Just Made Grouped Icons Easier
If you’ve ever worked with content library icons in Storyline, you've probably seen the icons in several formats.
Sometimes the icons come in as a single freeform shape, and those work just fine. But other times, they come in as grouped objects and that can be tricky when you need to add hover states or interactive buttons.
Quick fix:
Just ungroup the icon, go to Merge Shapes > Union, and that’s it. You’ve now got a single freeform shape that’s much easier to work with and you can change the color or style any way you want.

What a brilliant use for the Merge Shape function! That's makes using icons so much easier. 👏
I still recommend copying-and-pasting an icon into the state of a transparent shape if the icon needs to be clickable. Otherwise, the icon can only be clicked on its visible parts, instead of anywhere within its overall boundaries. That also lets you include text without the need to use a Group.
Okay that's a fantastic idea for using merge shapes with icons. I'm writing a class on merge shapes for next month and will include this example

What a great tip! It would have never occurred to me to try that, thanks Montse!
