Badges for Competencies
We have some badges set up in our LMS for competencies but I'm wondering if anyone has any cool design templates to share for badges they've created. We are diving pretty heavily into a competency project and will be aligning courses in our LMS to that project in the coming months.

Hey Cheryl! Here's a few resources I found from searching badges in ELH:
- Free Graphics | E-Learning Heroes- TIP: Track Progress with Master Badges | E-Learning Heroes (not quite what you're after, but maybe inspiration!)
I'd also suggest taking a look through the examples forum or the weekly eLearning challenges to see if someone has a particular design style you like. You can tag them here to see if they have anything for your competency badges!- JudyNolletSuper Hero
CherylStGermain: It was sweet of MaryEmma_Gary to share my post about master badges. I'd go beyond saying it's "not quite what you're after" to saying "it's definitely not what you're looking for."
That tip and its demo explain how to control objects (aka "badges") on a master layout. In other words, it's about tracking progress within a given Storyline course. It's not about nicely designed badges. In fact, I'll be the first to admit that design is not my forte.
The other resources she shared are excellent. I always find it inspirational to look at examples with a wide range of styles.
That's what I get for doing a too-quick scan! Thanks for clarifying Judy 😅
Reading through responses and clarifications, & tagging in a few folks who I know have design expertise here in case they have thoughts to share:
I always like Ekaterina_V's designs when she shares examples, I wonder if she has anything on hand.
EQ23 also shared a nice design example recently.
SyedAmjadAli also recently shared an example that had some nice graphic design and included a badge.
Wonder if any of these folks have templates or examples of this they are willing to share?- souravwebalearnCommunity Member
One thing that's helped on projects I've worked on is keeping the badge design system really simple. It's tempting to make every badge unique, but once you have 30–50 competencies, that gets difficult to manage.
We usually stick to the same overall layout and icon style, then use colors or small visual differences to distinguish competency areas or proficiency levels. It keeps everything looking consistent and makes new badges much quicker to create.
I'd also recommend designing them at the size they'll actually appear in the LMS. A lot of badge concepts look great full-size but lose all their detail once they're shown as a small icon.
Really great suggestions that definitely resonate with our approach to badges here on E-Learning Heroes, too. Thanks for sharing your thoughts here souravwebalearn!
