This is an interesting approach. The Previous and Next buttons can be removed from individual slides before publishing the course though, sparing us from needing to create a trigger. Ideal UX would avoid even showing a button to someone they're not supposed to use.
I'm curious to know what goes wrong when you set the Next button to disable when the timeline starts. That functionality always works for me fine.
