In Public Beta: Survey Block

Survey blocks are still in development and will receive updates as part of Labs. Functionality will change over time. Some options could be modified, while others may be removed based on feedback and feature stability.

Survey Blocks are a new, in-development feature in Rise 360 designed to help you collect actionable, anonymous feedback directly from your training. Unlike traditional quizzes or knowledge checks, Survey Blocks let you gather insights and opinions from learners in a flexible, user-friendly way.

Select from four options, quickly deploy your training, and then monitor responses—all from within Rise 360. Here's how it works.

Note: At this time, survey blocks are supported only in training published via Quick Share, but will be available for LMS export and other publishing methods in the future.

Add and Modify Survey Blocks

After you enable this experiment from the Labs section of your account profile, adding a survey block is easy. In a course or microlearning, open the block library, select Survey, and then choose Survey. That's it!

Survey blocks have four possible response types:

  • Linear scale: rate using numbers on up to a 10-point scale (anonymous)
  • Sentiment: positive, negative, or neutral feedback rating (anonymous)
  • Short response: open-text field that allows responses up to 300 characters (anonymity based on Guestbook enablement)
  • Long response: open-text field that allows responses up to 5,000 characters (anonymity based on Guestbook enablement)

No matter which survey type you choose, the same steps apply:

  1. Add an optional title to the block. This will help you find it in the engagement report.
  2. Enter or modify the question. If included, modify the sentiment labels as needed.
  3. Click Add Item to add additional questions for the current survey.

Survey blocks can contain as many responses as you'd like in whatever combination you like. You can also change the response type at any time.

Pro Tip: Survey response reporting combines the responses for every question in a single survey block. If you have multiple responses that you'd like to track individually, we recommend using multiple survey blocks.

View Survey Block Feedback

To see survey block responses, go to the Publish menu and click View Quick Share engagement, then select the Survey responses tab. Select a survey block title from the drop-down menu to see the aggregated responses.

Once a survey question has at least five responses, you can generate an AI summary of all responses to date.

Note: Generated summaries aren't persistent and must be regenerated whenever the response tab is reloaded.

Survey Blocks FAQ

Are there any accessibility, localization, or collaboration issues?

Survey block hasn't been tested for accessibility compliance and doesn't support localization at this time. Only collaborators with the feature enabled can modify survey blocks.

Do I have to use Quick Share to deploy training that contains survey blocks?

At this time, survey block feedback is supported only when training is distributed via Quick Share. We plan on adding support for additional publishing options in the future.

Is there a way to see who left feedback?

Linear scale and sentiment questions are always anonymous. When the Quick Share guestbook is enabled, short and long responses include the name provided by the learner.

What happens when I change a ratings response to a short or long response? Do I lose the responses?

When you change a survey question to a different response type, previous entries are preserved but not visible. To see previously entered responses, change the response type back to one of the text-entry response types or vice versa.

Share Your Feedback

We're excited about Survey Blocks, but need your help to ensure it meets the needs and expectations of all Articulate users. Your feedback will directly influence development, so consider sharing your thoughts on the following topics:

  • Uses. How are you using survey blocks? Does the feature meet your needs?
  • Bugs. Is anything not working as expected?
  • Improvements. How could this feature be better?
  • Insights. How does this feature benefit you and your learners?

You can enable and disable this feature from the Labs page in account settings. Share your thoughts in the Labs forum or by accessing the feedback form directly from within the feature.

  • Hi everyone! We’re excited to share a couple of new Survey Block updates in Labs.

LMS support: You can now use Survey Block with LMS-published courses, making it easier to collect learner feedback. Survey responses are included in your LMS reporting data, so you can review them alongside other learner activity for the course.

Multiple choice items: We’ve added multiple choice and multiple response items, so you have even more flexibility when creating surveys.

Please try these updates out and share your feedback with us. We’d love to hear how Survey Block is working for you and what you’d like to see next!

With the new option of "LMS support: You can now ... for the course."

How would one get the input of the surveys out of the LMS/e-learning? For reference we use Plusport LMS.

      Hi GomAcademie,

Survey Block responses are now included when publishing for LMS distribution. However, how that data is captured and displayed depends on your LMS. In some cases, additional configuration may be required on the LMS side. Your LMS administrator would be the best resource for guidance on that process.

We also recommend publishing with SCORM 2004 whenever possible. It provides the most comprehensive reporting capabilities and offers the broadest compatibility with third-party learning management systems.

  • Hi thank you for this! Think it's a great feature.

We are looking to use surveys as part of learning published on a Kallidus platform. I see from the update that as of last month LMS support is live. Do you know how I can view the responses to the surveys in a Kallidus system?

  • I'm really enjoying the new Survey Blocks, they’re a great addition! I particularly like how easy they make it to collect feedback in such an informal and engaging way. Thank you for continuing to develop these features.

A group of learners currently testing my project have shared a few recommendations that they feel would improve their experience of using the Survey Block:

    1. Traffic-light indicators – linking colours to responses could make it easier to visually identify which responses are poor, neutral or positive at a glance.
    2. Spacing between questions – one tester found that the lines between questions, particularly when multiple question blocks were placed one above another, made it slightly more difficult to distinguish between questions and respond without confusion.
    3. Custom images – personally, I would love the option to upload or select custom images rather than being restricted to the default facial expressions. This could provide greater flexibility when designing surveys for different audiences and contexts.

It’s great to see these kinds of updates being introduced, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the Survey Blocks develop further. Thanks again for the continued improvements! 😃

We have a standard survey in our LMS that would be handy to move to Rise for our rise courses just to reduce steps for our learners, however, it has a number of questions with internal logic. Like, if someone picks a specific response, it opens a short answer text box so we can capture deeper feedback. Is there any chance of adding that level of responsiveness?

      Hi ecahill,

      Thanks for sharing the feedback

This is helpful for our team as they continue to improve Survey Blocks in Rise. We'll be sure to notify you if we release a future enhancement that helps!

  • Our team is very interested in the survey blocks and has started exploring their functionality. Our main questions are:

When do you expect survey blocks to be available in Reach 360?

Will there be an option to export survey responses and data to Excel for analysis and reporting?

We'd appreciate any information or updates you can share. Thanks for your help!

I'm exploring the use of Rise to create a digital workbook. I understand this post has a different focus, but it appears this new Survey Block may help us achieve some of our workbook objectives. It also provides you with a use case for this type of block.

Specifically, I'd like to know whether it can support the following:

    1. Allow learners to write and save their reflections within the workbook so they can return to them later.
    2. Allow learners to download or export their workbook responses for their personal records.
    3. While access to learner responses could provide valuable insights, we have committed to maintaining learner privacy and confidentiality. Is there a way to configure the survey data so that responses are visible only to the individual learner and not to course authors, administrators, or other reviewers?

To support this use case, it would also be helpful if the Submit button label could be customized to Save. The term Submit may imply that responses are being sent to an instructor or reviewer, whereas Save more accurately reflects a private workbook experience where learners are capturing reflections for their own use.

If it can't support the use case, please consider the ability to edit the submit button label.

Thank you for any guidance you can provide.

      Hi NelsonValdez,

      Thank you for the suggestions!

Currently, this level of functionality and customization is not supported by Survey Blocks. I've shared your feedback with our product team so they can consider these enhancements for future updates.

I agreed with many comments above.  It would be great to be able to export the feedback to share with SME's so that they can see the feedback regarding content etc. As currently, the feedback can only be viewed by the creator who might not have developed the content.  The only option at the moment would be to have a teams call which is fairly time consuming to do for every course you may create. You can share the AI insights, but it makes the information look like it must be done but it might have been only one person who has given that feedback.
