New in Labs: Drafting Custom Block Templates Using Prompts

Custom Block AI Drafting is in active development as part of Labs. Functionality will evolve, and we may modify or remove certain features based on user feedback and stability. This feature is only available if AI Assistant is enabled

Custom block templates can help you create training faster with a variety of prebuilt layouts and content options. Now, with the new Custom Block AI Drafting feature, personalizing these templates is easy. Just describe the changes you want in plain language. Here’s how it works.

Understand Custom Block AI Drafting

Custom block AI drafting helps you get started quickly by filling existing layouts with relevant content. Enter a prompt, and content that matches your request gets generated, replacing the placeholder content.

Currently, you can modify text, images, and audio with custom block AI drafting. It works best for providing a first draft of content rather than changing layouts or supporting iterative edits, so the prompt box disappears after a single request. The feature focuses on global, cohesive changes rather than on modifying specific elements. For example, changing one image changes all the other images in your canvas.

The next section explains how to start using the Custom Block AI Drafting feature.

Insert Custom Block Template

Begin by adding a custom block template to your Rise 360 course. Here’s how:

  1. Click Block Library in the block shortcuts bar at the bottom. This opens the block library sidebar menu.
  2. Expand the Custom Block menu.
  3. Pick a category, then choose a template.

Draft Custom Block Template

Once you’ve inserted a custom block template, follow these steps:

  1. Hover over the block and click the Content icon in the floating toolbar on the left to open the custom block. The Replace text and media prompt box automatically appears at the bottom center of the canvas.
    • If you started with a blank canvas, selecting a template in the sidebar menu also brings up the Replace text and media prompt box.
  2. Describe the change you want to make to the template in the prompt box.
  3. Click Replace content.

Note: You won't be able to perform any other actions while the template is generating. Click Stop to cancel the process.

FAQs

Will content from other blocks in the same lesson be referenced?

Yes. Custom block AI drafting can use content from the current lesson, similar to the AI Writer feature. However, its awareness is limited, and it doesn’t yet reference uploaded source content.

Can it align shapes or change styles and fill colors?

Not reliably. Custom block AI drafting may overlook or misinterpret styling requests, as it focuses primarily on generating and updating content rather than adjusting layout or design.

Can I ask it to create new custom block elements in addition to what’s in the template?

No. Custom block AI drafting can only generate content to replace the placeholder content in the template's block elements.

Can it replace images with videos?

This isn’t supported yet. If it’s important to your workflow, feel free to submit a feature request.

The prompt box disappeared, but I’m not finished drafting. How can I bring it back?

The prompt box currently appears only when you start with a new template. To continue drafting with AI, delete the existing content and re-add a new template.

Is there a template that can be used to upload content created without the AI attempting to make changes? For example I have content written with suggested images, and custom blocks; can this document be modified to include specific programing framing to allow the upload of entire content courses?
