New in Labs: Skip-ahead Quizzes
Skip-ahead quizzes is still in development and will receive updates as part of Labs. Functionality will change over time. Some options will be modified and others may be removed based on feedback and feature stability.
Skip-ahead quizzes allow creators to deploy competency-based assessments for learners. Learners who pass these quizzes can jump to the section designated by the training author. It's a great way to speed up training and keep your learners engaged. Here's how they work.
How to Use/Access Skip-ahead Quizzes
After enabling Skip-ahead quizzes from the Labs page in account settings, open a course.
- Create a quiz lesson that's followed by at least one additional lesson or quiz.
- Open Quiz Settings.
- Toggle on Skip Ahead If Passed.
- Use the If Passed, Skip to drop-down menu to select the lesson or quiz learners advance to after successfully passing the quiz.
Note: Any skipped content is marked complete. Enabling Skip Ahead If Passed automatically enables Restrict Navigation.
Known Issues
- This feature will appear disabled in Quiz Settings if there's no other content after the quiz.
- If the Labs experiment is disabled after a skip-ahead quiz is created, the skip behavior may no longer work.
- Rise Course LMS publish settings only allow tracking based on a single quiz. See the FAQ for a recommended approach to pre- and post-quiz design solutions.
Skip-ahead Quizzes FAQ
How can I use this for a pre/post quiz course design?
Rise LMS Exports currently support tracking results from a single quiz. When a skip-ahead quiz is enabled, any skipped content is automatically marked as complete. To create a pre- and post-quiz design, configure the pre-quiz so that learners who pass it skip the post-quiz. Then set tracking to Track using quiz result and specify the post-quiz or Track using course completion.
What do my learners see?
If a learner passes the quiz and skips ahead, the button on the results page displays the name of the lesson they'll skip to. We're actively exploring alternative learner-facing messaging, so please share your ideas via the feedback survey.
Why am I not seeing this in my Quiz Settings?
Ensure the experiment is enabled in Labs and that there is at least one lesson or quiz after the intended skip-ahead quiz. If you still don’t see this feature, please comment below and our team will reach out.
Is this feature accessible?
This feature is currently undergoing testing to ensure it meets WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility requirements.

Hooray! I've previously restricted certain content creation to Storyline solely for the purpose of having the 2-quiz option because I wanted the leaner to be able to 'test out of content' if they already know the topic.
Great to know this will be helpful to your workflow. AngieCarter_PCB! I can see how this will help your learners. After testing this feature out, feel free to share any feedback in our feedback form. Thanks for sharing your excitement with us!

Hi KyleClements1 -- Does the skip ahead feature have any known problems working with a quiz that's drawn from a question bank?
My quiz is not working -- when passed it just goes to a blank page. At the moment the only possible reason I can think of is that it's got a question bank draw in it...could that be an issue?
Thanks!
Thank you John! Our team will take a look at what might be going on here. Really appreciate your calling attention to it.

Hey Kyle -- just wanted to let you know this was not caused by the question bank after all, it was a conflict with a browser plugin I was using.
I had done the same thing before with no issues, but it turns out there was something different in this instance...anyway I've got it resolved now! Thanks!

I'm excited for this feature to roll out! What a great way for "more experienced" learners to get to the deeper content without needing to scroll through what they already know.
I'm so glad you're excited about this feature, RuthanneBrodeur. Definitely a great addition to Rise 360! Thanks for joining us in Labs!

This is great! We often use multiple quiz/question banks-one mapped to each lesson or topic. It'll be incredibly helpful if multiple results slides can be used to track completion, report data to the LMS. We do this all the time with Storyline.
Thanks for reaching out! It's helpful to know your current workflow, TaherMamuwala. Feel free to give this Labs Feature a try and share feedback in our feedback form!

Just delighted to see this come to Rise. Got to start playing around with this now as the lack of this feature currently limits where we can use Rise, i.e., pre-assessments are expected for many of our projects.
We're so glad, BrettRockwood-a! Yes, please give Skip-ahead Quizzes a try and share your insight with us by using our feedback form. Happy exploring!

I am genuinely excited to test this new feature! It is a thoughtful addition that respects the time of experienced users by allowing them to quickly validate their knowledge. This change is a significant win for learner autonomy and enhances the overall professionalism of the experience.
To make this feature truly inclusive for everyone, regardless of their experience level, I would love to see an option to add a Continue to Lesson option right below the Start Quiz option on the course instructions page.
It's important to acknowledge that inexperienced learners may feel a bit discouraged. By offering the choice between Start Quiz and Continue to Lesson, we empower learners to take control of their own learning journey. This approach allows more experienced users to skip ahead while giving beginners the opportunity to engage directly with the material, thus sparing them the frustration of failing a pre-test.
This simple addition would make the tool adaptable for users at all levels. Thank you for the opportunity to share my thoughts—this direction for Rise is fantastic!
Hello AmEy_Michelle,
Thanks for sharing your thoughtful feedback! I've logged this internally. If you have any other ideas for enhancing the feature, don't hesitate to let us know in this thread or via our feedback form.
Glad you're joining us in Labs!

Hey LucianaPiazza :)
Thank you for sharing all of that information! I just realized I should have mentioned that I also submitted the same details in the feedback form. 🤭I appreciate having both options available as a user, because it gives us flexibility and ensures that our input is considered. 🤩
Once again, I’d like to express my gratitude for providing us, the users, with the opportunity to share our feedback and thoughts. It really makes a difference to feel heard and involved! 😍

Hi, this is a great feature. I’m running into an issue when a learner fails the pre-quiz.
I’ve configured the pre-quiz to allow only one attempt. When the learner fails, the Continue button remains locked and there’s no way for them to proceed.
My understanding was that this feature would require someone who fails the pre-quiz to review all of the content, and then be able to take the post-quiz at the end. Is that the intended behaviour?
Thanks OliverDeakin-41 ! I'll have our engineers take a look at this. You are correct about the intended behavior. If you haven't already, please share any additional insights via the feedback survey. The team will be watching that closely for feedback and potential issues.

I have just been playing. I think this functionality is fantastic and something we would definitely use heavily. Having the ability to allow people to test out is brilliant and something we are often asked for and this makes it so easy. I have just tested a simple version with a pre-quiz lesson, a content block and a post quiz followed by resources in our Workday LMS and it seems to work well.
One thing I would like to see is the ability to have a page where the learner can chose to go through the full course or test out. As an example we don't really want new hires to even have the option to test out or go through something they realistically aren't going to pass yet so I would love an initial page that had buttons that say something like New hires - go direct to content or allow others to test out. When I skip the pre-test though it won't allow me to proceed to the resources page (because it won't let me skip the pre quiz). Maybe there is a way to do this elegantly and I am just not seeing it yet?
Happy to share examples if it helps at all.

Excellent point! We use pre-tests all the time in Storyline and always build in this option. It's not only good for new hires but also for those who may just not feel they are proficient in the topic and don't want to waste time taking a test they know they'll fail and then be forced to go through the full course anyway. A way to make it optional for the user on whether to attempt a pre-test or not would be a key feature we're looking for.
Great suggestion! If you haven't already, please share this idea via the feedback survey as well. I'd love for this to be addressed within the quiz experience itself.
For now, a possible workaround could be using buttons or the new hyperlink enhancements experiment currently being tested. One could create a block just before the quiz that allows learners to skip navigate past the quiz by clicking the link.
