Rise blocking progress in branching scenario with multiple quizzes that require passing score to continue

Hello,

I have a Rise course that splits in navigation based on user's choice. One path (A) leads to a quiz that requires a passing score to continue. Another path (B) leads to a different quiz that requires a passing score to continue. When the user takes path option A everything works fine. When the user takes path option B, they get stuck after completing the quiz even if they have a passing score. The message that pops up says

"Must pass "[name of quiz from path A]" before continuing." 

Course navigation setting is set to "free". 

Is this a bug or a limitation by design? I could simply create a Storyline module to insert as a possible solution here, but I'd rather keep everything in Rise if I can help it.
