Size of Storyline block in Rise - Help!

Oct 23, 2018

Is there a way to control the size of how a Storyline interaction inside of a Rise block appears?  Despite me setting the Storyline width size to small and using no padding, my Storyline files created at 720 px X 405 px  (16 X 9) appear on a desktop monitor (in my case a resolution of 1280 X 1024)  so large that people have to scroll to see the top and bottom of it.

Hi Gordon,

Since Rise is responsive, the content is going to scale to fit your browser. If you're using a larger desktop monitor and allowing the browser sizing to match that you'll see the Rise course scale to fit.

Have you tested the various Storyline block widths to see the difference? I did a quick screen recording of two blocks I had, one at the small width and one at full width.

My apologies Ashley but I misstated and reversed the sizing. I am essentially using 9 X 16 - a portrait orientation - hence my Storyline file is 405 Wide X 720 long.  But as you describe, what is happening is it is scaling to monitor width - but that makes the length way too long - hence the vertical scrolling on a desktop.

Hi Gordon,

I set up a Storyline course with the same slide size, and when I added it to Rise, I kept the small width setting, and that allowed it to not fully scale to match what my monitor displayed. I took a quick Peek video of the Preview, at the largest size and then as I scaled the course smaller.

There is still a bit of scrolling to be done, but as you'll see not that much.

If your course is looking/behaving differently could you include the Share link here so I can take a look?

Hi Ashley,

Mine seems to have a lot more scrolling. Here is a review link: https://rise.articulate.com/share/RMGn-r47_eVCHaTLPbolXMCp6J7Z-BQT. Please launch the 6th item down called Email Activity.  I have also attached the SL file.

Thanks, Gordon. Both were really helpful. I've shared this with a few other teammates and we're still comparing your example with mine. It would help to know more about your monitor and browser that you're viewing the courses on? Can you let me know when you have a chance? For example, I viewed the course in Chrome ver. 70 on my LG UltraFine 5K Display.

Rather than maximize available space, I'd actually like to minimize the block height.  My use case is that I'm creating a storyline block for back end code/tracking purposes.  Since the block doesn't contain any visual content, I'd like to make it as small as possible.  The minimum Storyline publish size is 100x100, but Rise scales way beyond that even with its 'small' setting for the block.  Any possibility or workaround to achieve what I'm after?  Thanks.

Does anyone know of a thread discussing the size of Rise blocks embedded into Storyline 360?   Basically the opposite direction of the situation listed here.

I find that the responsive design of RISE blocks embedded into  Storyline makes the user interaction difficult/confusing (i.e. not all information listed on page or interactions spread across screens making drag/drop difficult, etc.).

Does anyone have a trick up their sleeve?

Thanks!

Hi Emma!

We don't set a limit on the slide dimensions within a Storyline Block, since Rise 360 will scale down the slide to fit within the block.

To give the Storyline Block more real estate in your lesson, use the full-width setting. Here's how:

  1. Hover over the Storyline block and click the Edit button that appears.
  2. When the sidebar opens, go to the Settings tab, then choose Full Width from the drop-down list.

Hi Lorraine!

Have you tried changing the width of the Storyline block in Rise 360?

  1. Hover over the Storyline block and click the Edit button that appears.
  2. When the sidebar opens, go to the Settings tab, then choose a Storyline Width from the drop-down list. Small or Medium should work best for you.

Let me know if that helps!

Hi everyone,

I also have a problem with the size of my embeded Sl file in Rise, but the other way around: I want it bigger than it currently is. I already changed the settings to full width in Rise and in the desktop preview it is full screen but in the tablet view it is suddenly smaller. The black "preview" before I hit play is perfect but then my slide starts and for some reason that is much smaller. I can`t figure out why. I already tried to scale up the publishing format in Sl but that didn`t change anything. Is there smething I don`t see?

Here a link to the example: https://rise.articulate.com/share/HuKVDhgqgLNbwmpZdhdDmLPohSfpiqnI

Attached you can find two screenshots of what it looks like on a tablet before and anfter I hit play.

I`m thankful for your thoughts and ideas.

Best,

Marlene

Hi there, Marlene! I can see the white space around the slide content in the tablet view. It looks like the slide content is not filling all the available player space in Storyline. So, at first glance, it looks like it isn't a problem with the amount of space that Rise 360 is giving to the Storyline block, but an issue between the slide content and the Storyline player.

We can have a look with your permission. You can share your .story file here with us for testing, and we'll delete your files when we're done troubleshooting.
