Side Scroller
In this side scroller game, learners control Enzo the squirrel to collect as many hazelnuts as possible for hibernation.
The game is an introduction to the topic of financial provision for old age. In Switzerland, we sometimes refer to this as the squirrel principle, which gave me the idea for this game.
The backend to the game in Storyline is pretty much a nightmare (especially the hazelnuts 🙃). So if anyone has an idea how it could be solved differently (or any other feedback), I would be grateful for your tips. Nevertheless, I am very proud of the result 😅

This is so cute and such a good idea to create some engagement around this topic! Is this functioning mostly as an introduction game to catch their attention, or is the squirrel principle baked into the function of the game in some way that they're learning the principle as they play?

Thank you for the kind words. It is both. This interaction serves as a playful introduction to spark interest. However, the squirrel is a kind of common thread running through the entire learning unit and at some points the squirrel is referred to again to give learners an easy-to-remember comparison.
Got it, this makes a ton of sense!

Great idea for this. I struggle use a parallax effect that works so well in this type of game. I found I was better at hitting the rocks than the hazelnuts! Need more practice. Thanks for sharing.
Agree, I ran into so many rocks 😅🐿️

This is so fun! I must say your Storyline skills are impressive and I may need to use you as a new "phone a friend" for troubleshooting in future! Would love to learn more about any other fun learning initiatives you have been rolling out!
Big +1 to this, and love the idea of "phone a friend" KimberlyNort678 😂

I love to hear you had fun and thanks for your kind words. Can't say that I'm the biggest Storyline expert around. But sure, go ahead if you need troubleshooting with something. If I can help I would be happy to do so 😀

This is a lot of fun, I was annoyed I could only collect 29 nuts, but not as annoyed as Enzo who told me off a the end (loved this, I laughed aloud in a busy office and they all turned around to see why.)

Haha thanks for your kind words. It's quiet nice to hear that someone gets your sense of humor 😀 By the way, that sounds like a situation I know. I once had to laugh so loudly in the library (because of a book about the history of swearing) that everyone was staring at me. But I just couldn't help it 😅
