Allow Rewind Function on Restricted Timelines
- 1 year ago
Hi Everyone!
Thank you for the feedback on the type of functionality you'd like to see in Storyline 360!
I'm happy to share that we are tracking a feature request to allow the seek-bar to be dragged backwards, while forward seeking remains restricted. I've included all of your voices in this request! We'll be sure to notify you if this enhancement makes it to our product roadmap.
Have a great rest of your week!
I agree we need a rewind function. Everything looks great then I have this button that sticks out like a sore thumb for 15 second rewind.

Hello BessyPlaza,
Thanks for sharing your experience! I can see how having a separate 15-second rewind button would stand out when everything else in your course looks just the way you want it.
I'm curious, what kinds of courses are you building where learners need to rewind while the timeline is restricted? And how often do you find yourself adding that button across your projects?
Your perspective helps us better understand how this limitation affects course design and the learner experience. Thanks again for taking the time to share your thoughts!

I can answer from our team's perspective.
Most of our lessons involve some sort of process demonstration via screen recording or video that we put into Storyline showing multiple steps and touchpoints for the learner on the equipment. With over 20,000 of these learners, there are many in various stages of understanding and/or muscle memory for those actions. Rewinding to catch those touchpoints is important.
With on demand learning, learners are also in various environments that can be distracting or loud, so missing a small section of the video or process affects the overall understanding and absorption of the material. But waiting until the 5 or 15 minutes of the process is completed is torture, especially in the longer videos.
Our seekbar MUST be restricted in the forward motion until the lesson has been played out due to compliance and regulatory rules for the industry we are in.
We have used JavaScript to add buttons for rewinding 10 seconds at a time and dragging the seekbar backwards with the forward restricted until first pass. It is "simple enough" for our group of designers to add in given enough time to learn JavaScript and toy with it, it should be equally as simple for the developers of SL to do the same and enable that option in the player. It would only be of value to all those who use Articulate for that option.
Sincerely appreciate the consideration on this.- AmandaScott-c3720 days agoCommunity Member
+1 on the "compliance and regulatory rules for the industry we are in" that requires learners to have a set number of training time for specific policies.
We have dozens of workflows that are being trained every week to both new hires and existing reps in busy call centers, and the feedback we get consistently is that they aren't able to rewind 15 or 30 seconds when they miss something due to their busy environment.
Unfortunately, we aren't able to do what Lauranne's team does with JavaScript, so we are relying on Storyline to hopefully get an update that enables a rewind 15 or 30 seconds without enabling a forward seeking option before the first pass is complete.

Hello LucianaPiazza
We do have some webinars that we sometimes use as training. I have no problem with the restriction on fast forward. As an employee employee, using the course I might have missed something or someone might have walked in the office and like to be able to rewind so I can refresh where I left off.We also use videos and for training concepts such as scenarios. Some employees would like to hear the details more closely and would like the option to rewind rather than waiting till the end to restart the video. I hope this gives you an idea of the functionality I am looking for. Thanks for listening.

Hello BessyPlaza,
Appreciate the added context! You’re fine with fast-forward staying restricted. The sticking point is that when an employee gets interrupted or wants to catch a detail in a webinar or scenario video, they have to wait until the end to restart it.
We can’t commit to a change, but we’re glad to have your perspective. Anything else you’d like us to know is welcome!
