Show Trigger Points for Media Pause/Play on the Timeline or ...
Idea:
Provide the ability to accurately see and test “Pause media when timeline reaches” and “Play media when timeline reaches” triggers directly on the timeline without needing to preview the slide.
Current limitation:
When using “Pause media when timeline reaches” and “Play media when timeline reaches” triggers, these do not function when playing the timeline within the editor. The media only pauses and resumes correctly in Preview mode.
This creates a major usability issue because:
- The preview window does not display a visible timeline or timestamps
- It is difficult to determine the exact point where media pauses or resumes
- Fine-tuning trigger positions requires repeated trial and error
As a result, authors must:
- Add or adjust a trigger on the timeline
- Open Preview mode
- Observe roughly when the pause/play occurs
- Close Preview
- Adjust the trigger again
- Repeat the process multiple times
This significantly slows down development, especially when working with precise timing.
Suggested improvement:
Enable pause/play media triggers to function when playing the timeline in the editor. Additionally, provide visual indicators of these trigger points. This could include:
- Trigger markers displayed directly on the timeline
- Media pausing/resuming during timeline playback in edit mode
- Optional timestamp or tooltip showing exact trigger timing
- Ability to scrub and test timing without entering Preview
- OR if add a timer in the Preview window
Use case:
When synchronising narration, screen recordings, or animations, authors can precisely position pause and play triggers without repeatedly entering preview mode.
Benefit:
- Speeds up timing adjustments and testing
- Improves accuracy when synchronising media
- Reduces reliance on Preview mode
- Enhances overall workflow efficiency for developers
