storyline slide view: slides move in slide panel - please freeze slides
Hi RandySimmons1! Thank you for reaching out! I'm interested in hearing more about this behavior because I don't see that we have it logged as a bug or feature request. I understand that when you're editing your course that you move from slide to slide in the slide view on the left of the slide stage. However, the position of the thumbnail changes, making it rather tedious!
Is it possible that you could create a screen recording of your experience that I can share with our Product team?
LaurenDuvall Here is another example. This time I was adding an audio file to a slide and the thumbnail moved up in the list.

What you're running into looks more like a bug to me than a feature request, so I've opened a case on your behalf to connect you with our Support Engineers. I too have this problem of the side panel slides moving. It even happens when selecting a slide that isn't at the top or bottom of the panel as shown in the videos. I can't unfortunately make any videos as it is a work computer this is on. If this can be fixed or a toggle switch that turns this on and off added that would really help. I have on numerous occasions copied or duplicated the wrong slide because it has moved of its own accord!
Hi KellySheehan-da! Thanks for contributing to this discussion! In an earlier reply, I mentioned this might be a bug. After taking a closer look, I realized this behavior is actually working as designed right now. That said, I completely understand why the slide thumbnails shifting in the side panel feels disruptive. When slides move unexpectedly, it’s easy to select, copy, or duplicate the wrong one.
What you’re describing is really a request for more control, like being able to freeze the slide panel or toggle that movement on and off so you can work with confidence. We’ve shared this feedback with our product team so they can see how it’s affecting your workflow in Storyline. We'll report back if we have an update!
