Turn your next quiz into a fun game using this quiz game template. This template makes use of the random number variable, animations, and icons from Content Library to create a "rolling the dice" effect. The quiz includes 20 multiple-choice question slides that you can quickly customize with your own question text.
Don't forget to download the font (Bree Serif) to get the exact look-and-feel you see here!
Hi Tim. Do you have Articulate 360 installed, along with the latest update? If so, you should not be getting errors when you try to open this in Storyline 360. You're not trying to open a 360 file in SL2, by any chance? If you can't resolve the issue please submit a support case here: https://articulate.com/support/contact/360-teams
Strange. Just tested on my end with a few people and we all have no problems opening the file. What steps are you following to download and open the file? What's happening? Are you seeing an error message?
I love the use of the random variable to incorporate a dice roll.
I am curious why you made it so it doesn't matter if you answer the questions correctly or not? Based on the location of the dice trigger you are moved across the game board before you even get to the question.
Either way it will be fun playing around with it. Nice job!
Hi Tim!
Thanks for your feedback :) This is just the idea I came up with so I just rolled with it (get it? dice? rolling.. ha). Anyways, I'm sure there are endless ways this could be tweaked and edited to add more or less questions, ability to not move forward until its answered correctly, etc. The options are really endless. That's the fun thing about Storyline :)
Hi Nicole,
Do you know of a way to change this so you need to complete all the questions before finishing? Obviously you can't have the full 20 questions.
Thank you! :)
Hi Amber... can you elaborate a little bit what you mean? If you're using the dice then you'll advance randomly and (as you mentioned) you'll never answer all 20 questions. Are you asking how to get rid of the dice and have the learner go through each of the 20 questions, in order, one at a time? :) Thanks in advance for clarifying, I want to make sure I answer properly :)
Hi Nicole,
Thank you so much for getting back to me!
I managed to work this one out myself and it now works perfectly for what our company needs :)
Thanks again!
It appears Storyline 360 has different features than Storyline 3. This game
template uses a random variable feature, which 3 doesn't not have. It seems
strange that there are two new versions of Storyline, yet they don't have
the same features. Perhaps, it is their way to encourage you to purchase
the 360 package instead of individual products. I am not a fan of this
approach. -Ladd

Hi Tara,
Firstly, I rigged the dice so that it only rolled to 5 and grouped a couple of questions so that I didn't have too many i.e. Q1 jumps to Q2 when you press submit, Q2 jumps back to the game when you press submit. I left the True/False trigger on the question slides as well. I also added a trigger to the last question which made it jump to the results slide.
On the game board I added a "ClickCount" variable so when they press the Roll the Dice button it adds one.
On the numbered layers I added the following conditions to the chess piece:
Jump to Slide: Question 1
When: The entrance animation completed
On Condition: If click count is equal to 1.0
Question 1 is equal to False
Jump to Slide: Question 2
When: The entrance animation comp... Expand

I continued that for all of my questions.

hi Amber,
Since i want to convert this to a graded questions, i want the user to attempt all the 20 questions in order to grade him. I want to have a results slide at the end too.
Is that possible, can u share a working example too
Hello! I LOVE it! Is there any way to use a results slide with it? I have one attached, but of course since it's random, we don't know which questions they will get to count towards the result. I need to be able to produce a score. :) Thanks so much and awesome work!!
Hi Tara!
You can certainly add a Results score and modify the amount of points each question is worth. Say there's 20 questions, each worth 5 points. There's a total possible 100 points to get 100%. You know that if you roll the maximum of 6 each time you roll, you'll still need to roll the dice at least 4 times (6+6+6+6=24) to get to the end of the game (Question 20), so you don't want to set your score any lower than 20 points, or 20%. You'd basically need to set that (20%) to be your passing score, because if you set your passing score to be say, 50%(50 points) then if they happen to roll all 6's and get only 4 questions they wont be able to score that many points. So in this case, I would say you set each question to be worth 5 points (if you have 20 questions - this equals 100) a... Expand

Since, as mentioned, the questions will be gone through randomly, there's really no other option i can think of right now to set the score.
Thanks so much! I'll try that. I'll probably have to remove the score percentages from the learners view so it won't be confusing. :) I'm new to all this so thank you so much for taking the time to work with me. I really appreciate it. I hope to be as skilled as you are at creating courses some day. :)
Hi Nicole,
Just trying to set this game up now, but don't know how to attach the question to the space on the game, could you please let me know?
Many thanks
Hi Deb!
The 20 questions are each on an individual quiz slide and there's a trigger that automatically links to the question slide when you land on each square of the board game. :) If you pop open the file and have a look in the Triggers panel it should help.
Thank you Nicole â it started to work (not sure I did anything different đ)

Does this template work with Storyline 3? I tried opening it a couple of times. It says the project uses features that are not available in this version of Storyline. It is asking me to upgrade. I just upgraded from Storyline 2 to 3.
Hi Ladd!
Thank you leaving a comment! This template is currently only available for Storyline 360, not for Storyline 3. The random number variable feature that is used to simulate rolling the dice is currently not available in Storyline 3.
If you're interested in seeing which features are available in the various versions of Storyline there's a helpful chart here: https://articulate.com/360/storyline#compare
Also, you'll notice the download titles have the version of the software that they are created for, right in the title. So the downloads for Storyline 3 will say Storyline 3 in the title. Hope that helps for next time :) Thanks again for leaving your comment.
Storyline 360 is one of the tools you get with Articulate 360, which is indeed an annual subscription.
However, it's important to note that with your subscription you get more than just Storyline 360, you also get a huge content library which includes TONS of characters and literally millions of stock images, videos, icon sets and illustrations, as well as a Review app that lets you quickly share your courses for feedback with anyone. Plus there's lots more you get with an Articulate 360 subscription including Live training sessions every week with Articulate experts like myself, video recording & editing tools, and more. And yes, Storyline 3 is a one-time license. :) But just keep in mind that then you don't get all the other extras I mentioned above.
Hope that helps!
We used this template and it was fine, but now when it gets to certain questions it gets stuck and will not return to the title page. We haven't changed any triggers. Any ideas as to what might be happening?

Hello!
I am having similar issues. After the 3rd roll, and after you answer the question you hit the continue button, nothing shows on the screen, just the submit button. I haven't changed any triggers.
Please help, it is a great game!
Hi Donna! I see a few people are having the same issue, but I can't tell what the problem is without taking a closer look at your .story file. Any chance you can start a discussion in the community and share the file so I can help? :) Thx!

Hi Donna,
Thanks for patiently waiting. It appears that the issue occurs because of the When revisiting option on slide 1.1. Currently, it is set to Resume saved state. When changing this to Automatically decide, it works. I've just added some triggers to change the state of the picture to hidden and to show the layers when the timeline starts and it is working fine now. Please see attached file. I've also logged it as a possible software bug.
From here, I'll meet with my team to take a closer look so we can determine next steps. Sometimes my team catches errors in my logic and we don't have a bug after all. Of course, if that's the case, I'll let you know!

I can't figure out what is going on. I downloaded the template and was able to add my custom information with no problem. For some reason though, the game stops working after rolling the dice three times and three questions have been answered. After submitting the third question I get a blank white page with a submit button in the lower right corner https://360.articulate.com/review/content/da063f50-ab6e-44c5-a715-a48c7cb0bd42/review. Any suggestions on what I might need to adjust?
Hi Chris - Sorry you've run into this issue! First of all, please submit a support case for this so it gets logged in our system as a bug so we can get a fix on it. https://articulate.com/support/contact
In the meantime, one thing that may fix the issue is to go into each of the Question slides and remove the "Fade" transition. Go to the transition tab and change it to None. This may resolve the issue.
Hi, folks! To follow-up on Nicole's post, I'm so excited to let you all know that we just released update 18 for Storyline 360 đCheck out all the new fixes here: https://articulate.com/support/article/Articulate-Storyline-360-Version-History
One of the fixes addresses an issue some of you reported where a base layer object would appear in layers even with a trigger to hide it.
Hereâs how you can update Storyline 360 to see everything the latest release has to offer: https://community.articulate.com/series/122/articles/articulate-360-user-guide-how-to-install-launch-desktop-authoring-apps#update

I have been searching for examples of randomized numbers for a branching scenario I'm developing. This example is exactly what I needed. I snagged the triggers and Dice Roll layer, then modified them to get the desired effect in my project. Thank you for sharing!!
Hi - I am brand new to eLearning and Articulate but this kind of thing is what I was hoping to find. Thank you for the share and I am really looking forward to building an engaging course for my clients.
Hi Nicole! Great dice game! I'm fairly new at creating e-learnings and using articulate in general.. would there be an ability to move the game piece backwards the amount on the dice if the question is answered incorrectly? If so, could you maybe help walk me through the best way to adding this to your template?
Hi Amanda! Thanks for your question! Thats a good one, and I'm sure it's possible using Articulate Storyline 360. You might want to post your question here in the forums where a community member can give you a hand if there are any specific steps you're struggling with: https://community.articulate.com/forums/building-better-courses
