Nadelle, I so wish I could tell you! I worked on other projects during this time, so I can’t say for sure how much time it took. I will say, due to my indecisiveness, I spent more time deciding on the color theme than actually building out the interaction. 😬
Hi Faffie! Great question! While on the slide, go to Form View. On the left, there is a list of Acceptable Answers. Any text you type in those fields will be counted as correct. Just make sure you take into account all the possible spelling learners might type. If they type anything different from what’s in those fields, it will be marked as Incorrect. I hope that helps!
Hi Sarah,
This is great! Thanks so much for sharing, very timely. Question for you: B is the correct answer for all of the questions. How do I mix it up? I can't seem to get it to work. Thanks!
Glad you like it, Marsha! In Form View, the answers should be set to shuffle. Here's more info on answer shuffling. https://community.articulate.com/series/articulate-storyline-360/articles/articulate-storyline-360-user-guide-how-to-shuffle-answer-choices
I found the idea of a game very interesting.
Congratulations!!!
I was able to download it but I have not been able to open it on my computer.
Please help me!
Thanks for letting me know, Princia. Do you have an Articulate 360 subscription?

You game is really cool! I have to know....how did you get the opening scene's light to blink off and on. I have been studying this and just can't figure it out. would be very grateful if you would share your secrets :)
Thanks, Paul! I used a few oval (circle) shapes for each light, added a Shape Effect - Glow, and stacked them on top of each other. One has a subtle glow and the other has a thicker glow. I also edited the timeline so they only show for 1/2 a second each, then added the jump to time trigger to start the effect over to give it that blinking effect. Every other light has the same effect so they switch off.
Thank you so much for sharing this - it's a wonderful resource! Do you have any tips for quickly changing the colors to align with company colors? I saw there are a lot of shapes and wasn't sure the best way to do this.
Thanks for the kind words, Krystal! I designed this game using a jeopardy-inspired color theme with gradients so it might be a bit different to customize than my usual templates. The fastest method I can think of is to:
-Create your own branded color theme.
-Customize one shape/category box on the main slide to be the exact design you want (this includes customizing the states – hover and disabled).
-Select that shape, click the Home tab, then double-click Format Painter. Double-clicking is super important so you don’t have to click it every time you want to copy formatting over
-Click each shape/category box on that main slide once, and it will copy over all the formatting.

Just make sure you copy incorrect buttons over to incorrect buttons and correct buttons to correct buttons since those have different states. You may also want to edit the background colors or other elements as needed. I hope that helps!
Hi Sarah, thanks a mil for this its amazing. Is there anyway we can log or track Peoples' results? We use Litmos SAP if thats any help! Kind regards,
Hannah
Hi Hannah! Great question! I didn't realize I made this without making the last slide a Results slide so you can have it report to an LMS. I just edited the story file. The last slide is now a Results slide. You'll need to download the file again (you should see a v2 at the end of the file name). Then, you can edit the Results slide for your needs. Hope that helps! 🙂
Hi Sarah,
I really like your Jeopardy game. I changed the background colour in Master view, however when I play the file I can see my changed colour but I then see the purple background around the changed slide colour. Would you be able to share how to change this purple colour?
Thanks, Barbara! You'll need to edit the Player background color as well. Here's an article with more info. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Wow…Thanks so much for your prompt reply. I had completely forgotten about the player.
Much appreciated Sarah😊

Hi Sarah.
Awesome job on this. I know that my new hires will have a ball with this.
I copied and pasted it over to my course and was able to get most of the colors changed to my organization's approved colors. The only issue I am having is with those sound effects. They play during most of the categories but there is silence during others. Even on the categories that are playing sound, I can't seem to find where you have hidden the file. It's not on the timeline or layers, so I can't replicate it in the other categories. Where are the sound files? Thanks!
Hi Pamela - the sound effect comes from the question slide that follows once you have chosen a button in one of the categories. The audio file for that is on the slide master for the blank layout. Hope that makes sense. However, they all seem to play the sound when I review it.
Hi Sarah,
This template is amazing, thank you for sharing!
I'm considering doing something similar to transform a formal end-of-course assessment into something more fun. I would want to use question pools though, so the learner is presented with different questions if they have to retake it. How would you go about introducing question pools into this template?
Thank you!
As so many comments indicate, great work on this. I intend to use this as an example in a workshop and deconstruct how it is created. I am stuck on one of your triggers:
Change state of
Rectangle 4 - "Correct"
to Correct
When the state of all of
Rectangle 3
Rectangle 5
is Visited
When playing the game, clicking any answer seems to trigger either the correct or incorrect layer and take the question out of play, making it impossible to change the state of more than one rectangle to Visited. And in any case, clicking Correct seems to preclude doing anything else on the slide, and takes the question out of further play. Furthermore, why would choosing both incorrect answers (even is that was possible) add up to a correct answer?

Thanks, John! And nice catch on that trigger! The way it's set now, it doesn't do anything. Sorry for the confusion! I realized that trigger was meant to be set to "when the state of at least one of" so that the correct answer was also revealed if the learner got the question wrong. Here's a screenshot of what that trigger should look like and the reveal when I select the incorrect answer.
https://bit.ly/3srnN0c
I updated the story file above to reflect that change. If you don't want the correct answer to be revealed along with the incorrect selection, you can delete that trigger. I hope that clears it all up. 🙂
Sarah,
Thanks for the courtesy of your reply. I understand the revision, and agree that it’s good instructional design to take advantage of a teachable moment to provide a correct answer right when the learner is wondering, “So what is it?”
As I mentioned in my earlier message, I would like to use your piece as an example in a workshop. Please reply with your permission to do so. It is through the San Diego chapter of ATD.
For these monthly workshops, I try to have a guest presenter. I understand that you are employed by Articulate, which may influence your being able to accept an invite to be a guest presenter. Please let me know it that would be of interest to you, or even possible given your association with Articulate.

I look forward to hearing from you.
Hi Sarah,
I agree with everyone else, this game is awesome! I can't wait to include it in our new hire curriculum.
I'm having a problem with the bonus question. When I click in the text box to type in the answer I get a small pop up showing the first correct answer I have on the form view. How can I prevent that from happening?
Hi Michelle! Sorry for the late reply! Did you type in the answer previously and replay the course? If so, it sounds like it might be the autofill which is based on browser settings and cannot be adjusted within Storyline 360. This discussion has some tips that might help: https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/auto-complete-text-entry-89a0ef64-1706-4d0c-8b16-46dd3ba9382e#reply-663644
Thanks, Anne! You could add additional questions, but there would be quite a bit of redesign work, such as the question board slide to account for all the new questions, editing the variable triggers for each new slide you create, the number at the top of each new slide, and a few other items I might be forgetting. So I can't say for sure how much extra time that would take or whether or not it's worth it to add extra questions.
Hi Sarah
I managed to add additional questions and as you say, updated the game board and edited the triggers for the slides and changed the numbers. Took me around 4 working days to do this. However so worth the effort as we are now using it as our annual Christmas Quiz. Once again an awesome template and thanks for sharing.
Hi Sarah,
I'll echoed everyone here, this is AMAZING! Thank you for sharing.
I want to incorporate this game into a course as part of an assessment. I see that you have the object trigger set to Restart Course when the user clicks on "Play Again". If I change this to reset results instead of reset course, will the user be able to play the game again to get a higher score so it can report that score to the LMS? We want our trainees to score at least 80% to pass the assessments. Thanks!
Thanks so much, Marci! Also, great idea on the reset results option! I went ahead and updated the template with that new trigger in case you want to download it again. If you've already added it to your copy, just make sure the reset results trigger is above the restart course trigger since triggers follow a certain order. As for the LMS side of things, I definitely recommend testing it out since each LMS is different. I hope that helps!
Hi Sara,
Thanks for the update ☺ I went ahead and downloaded it.
Is there a way to reset the question board and not the course instead? This way the learner only does the assessment portion (the game) only?
This will be my second course I'm working on so I'm a newbie with Storyline.
Hi!
Thanks for this amazing resource!
I'm hoping that I can adjust the bonus question to be available once the player reaches 3000 points.
I've tried every trigger I can think of and I don't know how to get it to work.
Do you have any suggestions?
Thank you! :)
Great template! I am having one issue--when trying to navigate the questions by keyboard, I am not able to cycle through the three answer choices. I've checked the focus order; I'm wondering if there is something more that needs to be done because it is a 'pick one' freeform question?
Update: I removed the 'freeform' from every slide, and this fixed the issue. I added a slide toward the end that puts the score variable into a numerical entry which is then reported to LMS.
I would still love to know how to make free-form questions keyboard accessible, as this is essential for my audience.
Hey Adam! I'm sorry it's not working as it should. But thanks for sharing what you did! Here's an article that explains how to use a screen reader or keyboard navigation with multiple choice questions and multiple response questions: https://articulate.com/support/article/Storyline-Navigate-Multiple-Choice-Questions-with-a-Screen-Reader-or-Keyboard
You should be able to use the down arrow to navigate the slide and then use the space bar to select the different choices. But for my download, it's not quite working as it should. Some of the triggers in my file might be interferring with the tab order. Hmmm...I will look into this and get back to you (hopefully by next week) with a solution. 🤞
Hey Adam! I was just wondering—would you be willing to share your fix for this in a little more detail? I'm fairly new to Articulate 360 (only a little over a semester under my belt!) and I'm not sure I can replicate your fix with only the information from your comment. Like you, it's essential that I make this keyboard accessible for my audience. I'd really appreciate any help you (or anyone else!) could give!
This template is really awesome, so I'm really hoping to be able to use it! Sarah, you definitely hit it out of the park with this one. :)
Articulate support wrote this to me:
The jeopardy-style game template you are using added custom triggers to display the layer when the states of the choices are selected.
These triggers over-ride the keyboard navigation that we have designed for the Multiple-choice (Pick-one) questions causing the layers to show when you tab or arrow down. I would recommend that you disable these triggers and enable the Submit button in the slide properties. See screenshots for your reference:
That makes sense! Thanks for finding that out, Adam! I put it on my list to update this template so it's fully accessible. I will update you here once I upload the new version.
Thank you!

Hi Sarah! I mentioned this in another comment, but I really really love this template! I'm sure you're quite busy with a lot of things, but I was wondering if you've been able to make any headway with making the template accessible. Sorry to bother you!
