xAPI, also known as The Experience API or Tin Can API, is an e-learning software specification used for sending, storing, and retrieving learner activity and performance data.
This standard is based on the idea that learning can happen anywhere, not just in an e-learning course that’s hosted on an LMS, so you should be able to track learner activity everywhere.
xAPI captures information about online and offline learning experiences across different platforms using statements that explain what the learner has done. These xAPI statements are recorded in a Learning Record Store (LRS), which can exist alone or in addition to a Learning Management System (LMS).
