I couldn’t resist diving head-first into this month’s spooky-themed Articulate eLearning Challenge. What started as one quick idea turned into… well, two complete interactions (and the beginnings of a third). 👻 Project 1 – Wanda the Witch (Rise + HTML Block) I built a Rise experience using a custom HTML block to bring Wanda the Witch to life, think Pac Man but well with a little bit of magic. The code gave me all sorts of grief, but persistence (and a little bit of digital sorcery) finally got it running. Link: Play it here! 🧛 Project 2 – Whack-a-Vamp (Storyline 360) Because one spooky game clearly wasn’t enough, I also created a Whack-a-Mole-inspired mini-game where learners try to “whack” mischievous vampires before time runs out. The challenge? Getting every trigger, variable, and timing loop to play nicely together, but the result was worth every resurrection. Note - this was shared earlier here Link: Play it here! 🏚️ Bonus Idea – Haunted House Induction Somewhere in between, I even started storyboarding an induction for a haunted house attraction. I only made it as far as the eerie intro video before the clock struck midnight, but maybe next year’s challenge will see that one rise from the grave. Sometimes the fun of these eLearning Challenges isn’t about perfection; it’s about experimenting, breaking things, fixing them again, and seeing how far creativity (and caffeine) can take you. Hello! For this challenge, I reused a character I created way back in 2020, for Challenge #292 (Using Variables). In case you wondered, Zardoz is a cross between Sean Connery and the Zoltan machine from Big. I've upgraded Zardoz with a few tricks I've learned in the meantime, including live polling, a speech animation cycle, and some sneaky Javascript. If Zardoz doesn't successfully read your mind, he can still surprise you with what he does know about you. Does Zardoz know what you're thinking? TRY IT OUT HERE
