One Question Quiz/Survey
I would like to conclude my module not with a knowledge check, but with one question on how the audience perceive the topic. A simple question, with 5 answers. I tried to make this into a quiz with 1 MC question, but I am stuck in workarounds how communicate the chosen option to in Cornerstone via SCORM 1.2. Any ideas are highly appreciated!Certificate in Storyline 360
Hi, I created a downloadable certificate in storyline for a Rise course I was creating. I wanted the learners to be able to enter their name and the date and then press a button that would then download that certificate for them from. I did managed to create this using the Java script trigger. However, it stopped working recently. I did managed to fix it with adding in some different triggers but now it's a bit slow and takes the downloadable pop up to appear. I was wondering if there was another way that was easier to create something similar to this where learners can download a screenshot of their screen without using Java script. Can Rise dynamically reference an externally hosted file?
Hi All 👋 We’re exploring an idea for a suite of off-the-shelf compliance courses built in Articulate Rise. Businesses purchasing the courses would have the option to localise them by adding their own policies, procedures or other organisation-specific information. Ideally, the Rise course would display or link to a client-specific PDF or similar file stored outside the course. The client could then update or replace that file without us needing to edit and republish the Rise course each time (ideally, that is!). For example, could the Rise course look for a PDF with a specified filename at a known URL or server location and display it within the course, in a pop-up or via a link? Has anyone successfully implemented something like this in Rise? We’d be interested to know: Whether Rise can dynamically reference an externally hosted file Whether the file could be displayed within the course rather than opening separately Whether the client could replace the PDF while retaining the same URL, allowing the updated version to appear automatically Whether there are any LMS, SCORM, browser security or hosting limitations we would need to consider We’re hoping to create a simple way for each business to incorporate its own documents without requiring a customised version of the course to be republished. Any examples or alternative approaches would be greatly appreciated 🙏 thanks for any replies and happy to clarify further as I realise this might be a strange idea! :-DHas Anyone Else Had Trouble with States?
I'm using object with Normal, Hover, and Visited states that are images for a custom "+" icon. Everything was working fine when I first created it, but now the visual state no longer changes on hover. The strange thing is that Storyline still tracks the state changes correctly because my triggers are working as expected (for example, I can verify that all objects have been visited). The issue seems to be purely visual: the state changes are registered, but I can't see the Hover or Visited appearance. What's even stranger is that the issue appears to affect images randomly. On the same slide, other objects that were simply copied and pasted from the same source continue to work perfectly, while some images stop displaying their state changes. The bug can also occur during production, without closing or reopening Storyline. Everything can be working normally, and then the visual states suddenly stop updating on certain objects. Has anyone else encountered this issue since the latest update? Or am I the only one experiencing problems with object states? Thanks! (v. 3.126.38052.0)AI in Articulate: Excited or worried?
I’ve been looking at Articulate’s latest AI capabilities, and they are really impressive. But what does this mean for people like me who make a living designing e-learning? We have reached a point where almost anyone can generate a polished-looking course in a very short amount of time – including layouts, interactions, content and images. You no longer need much design experience to produce something that, at first glance, looks highly professional. And that worries me. Of course, creating something that looks like good e-learning is not the same as creating good e-learning. But I’m not sure that this distinction will always be obvious to clients and organisations. If an AI can produce an attractive course in minutes, it becomes much harder to explain why an organisation should invest considerably more time and money in having an e-learning professional design one. And this is where I have mixed feelings about Articulate’s direction. As a designer, I want tools that help me do my job better and remove tedious work. But when the goal increasingly seems to be making professional-looking course creation possible without professional course designers, I can’t help wondering whether Articulate is empowering its professional users – or gradually reducing the perceived value of their expertise. I’d really like to hear from other e-learning and instructional designers: Does Articulate’s new AI feel like a tool that makes you better at your job – or a tool that may eventually make organisations question why they need you at all?Code blocks load slower than the rest of the page
The SVG code blocks we use for section transitions are slow to load. This leaves visible white gaps in the lesson and causes the page to jump as the blocks appear, making the learner experience feel broken and unpolished. We use code blocks to create SVG section transitions in Rise. These are full-width, solid-colour shapes, sometimes with waves or cut-outs etc, that visually separate one part of a lesson from the next. SVG is ideal for these transitions because it: keeps curves, waves, and cut-outs sharp at any screen size scales to the full width without cropping or leaving white slivers at the edges uses our exact brand hex colours, without compression affecting them is significantly smaller than an equivalent PNG The issue is not the SVG itself. From the browser inspect I can see that each code block is loaded inside a sandboxed iframe from sandbox.articulateusercontent.com, with loading="lazy" enabled. Lazy loading makes sense for larger or more complex embeds, but it creates a noticeable delay for small decorative blocks placed throughout a lesson. Even though each SVG is only a few hundred bytes and has no external assets, the browser still needs to connect to Articulate’s sandbox domain before the content can render. The initial connection can involve steps such as a DNS lookup and TLS negotiation, so the delay is caused by retrieving the iframe rather than by the size or complexity of the SVG. When a learner scrolls at a normal pace, two things can happen: The learner reaches the block before it has loaded. The lazy-loading buffer does not provide enough time if the learner is scrolling quickly. Instead of seeing the full-width, solid-colour transition shape, they see a white gap. The page shifts when the block appears. The block’s height is calculated after it renders and is then passed back through --block-html-height. This causes the content below it to move once the transition shape loads. A delayed text or video block is relatively easy to overlook. A delayed transition shape looks like a hole in the page, so it reads as broken rather than slow. The issue is more noticeable on patchy or variable Wi-Fi, which is common across many of our sites. The irony is that the SVG is much lighter than the image format we are avoiding. The delay comes from loading the iframe from Articulate’s servers, not from the size or complexity of our code. __________________________________________________________________________________ Anyway what we’d like to see instead: Preconnect to the sandbox domain Adding the following to the published page’s <head> would establish the connection when the page first loads: <link rel="preconnect" href="https://sandbox.articulateusercontent.com"> This would allow subsequent code blocks to skip most of the connection setup. It is a small change that would benefit any customer using code blocks, particularly in modules containing several of them. Reserve the block height before it renders The block height is already measured after loading and applied through the --block-html-height CSS variable. If that height is available at publish time, applying it before the block loads would reserve the required space and prevent the page from shifting, even when the iframe is slow to render. Also worth considering: Give lazy loading more runway The current buffer starts the fetch when the block is close to the viewport. Increasing that distance would give small blocks enough time to load before the learner reaches them, without loading everything at once. Even a modest increase would cover most normal scrolling speeds. Eager-load the first code block on a page A code block at the top of a page has no runway at all — it is already in the viewport when the page loads, so the fetch only begins after the main layout has settled. We have worked around this by never placing a code block first on a page, and that is a fair enough trade-off for us. But it is a workaround rather than a fix, and it limits how we can structure a lesson. Eager-loading only the first code block would be a targeted change with no cost to modules containing many blocks. We are not asking for lazy loading to be removed. We understand why it is useful, particularly in lessons containing multiple media-heavy embeds. We are asking whether its visible effects can be reduced for small, lightweight code blocks. Impact We are building a Rise template that will be used across our organisation, so these solid-colour transition shapes will appear in every module our team produces. The loading gap undermines an otherwise polished learner experience, and it is not something we can resolve through design or by optimising the SVG further. Preconnecting to the sandbox domain and reserving the block height would address both the delayed rendering and the layout shift without removing the benefits of lazy loading.Button Label After Translation
In Articulate Rise, after a course has been translated and the interface labels have been changed to the target language, any newly added Continue button still appears in English instead of using the selected language. Note, I have customized the button labels under Settings already. Expected behavior: Newly added buttons should automatically display in the course’s selected language or be available for translation. Actual behavior: Newly added Continue buttons remain in English. Thanks for any insights on this.Using HD for the first time and the timeline preview is very slow - is this normal?
Hi, I'm using the newish HD side slide setup in Storyline, and the timeline preview (using the space bar) is extremely slow. It actually has a loading icon showing that it's working rather than instantly previewing like Storyline used to. Is this normal? I wouldn't have tried the HD version if I had known this in advance.
