storyline audio issues

Sep 21, 2016

Hi Guys,

I am pretty new to storyline and am working on a large project that had audio the we need to be view on iPad. We are testing out some of the individual scenes and have notice that the first two slides play the audio that the ones after that have no audio. I have tried publishing it a couple different ways. With and with out the Articulate Modile player checked. with and without html5 output. The only think I have not done is checked the box that allow downloading for offline viewing. I don't want people to be able to download the course.

I have tried testing it on a couple different platforms and the only place it works perfectly on is my Mac desktop running OS 10.11.6. I am not sure what I am forgetting or missing. Any and all help much appreciated. I have attached a small part of the project that we are getting the audio issues on.

Hi Melissa,

It doesn't look like the attachment made it into the post here. Would you mind trying to attach it again? You can even do so in a comment right in this thread using the "Add Attachment" feature in the comment window.

I'de also like to know a couple other details to better assist, if you wouldn't mind. What environment are you publishing for and where are you uploading the published output to in order to test it? Are you hearing the audio issue when you preview right in Storyline or just once it's published? Thanks!

Sorry about that Ali, I was have issues earlier with getting my discussion to post.

I have be publishing for use just a a pc or mac desktop which seems to be working fine in most cases when using chrome usually. the major issue comes when trying to view the attached story file an iPad when published for my LMS. I have attached a screen shot of the setting I use. I cannot get my storyline file to upload though any suggestions?

Hi Melissa- No need to apologize, thanks for the additional details here! The settings you have shouldn't be impacting the audio at all. What I would recommend trying first, if the issue seems to be concentrated to when it's viewed in the LMS, is to troubleshoot your LMS using SCORM Cloud. This will give a good indicator of whether the issue is related to your file or specific to your LMS.

If you're able to reproduce the issue in SCORM Cloud, you can also try submitting your .story file to me privately using this form so I can do some testing.

Let me know how everything goes!

Thank you Ali,

I have uploaded this file to the SCORM Cloud and got the same results when viewing on an iPad.
I am not sure how to share that with you.

I'll upload my file to the form as well for you to look at.

I have attached two images of when the project looks like when viewed on an iPad.
It launches in the window with in the LMS but it really small. I am not sure when that is either.

Hi Melissa! Just wanted to update here in the thread for anyone following along. The issue that was occurring is one that our Quality Assurance Team is aware of and investigating. If you have a video on a slide that is set to "mute" then the inserted audio will no longer play in the HTML5 output. Luckily there are a couple workarounds available here:

1) Set the volume of the video to low (don't use mute)
2) Use a video editor to remove the audio in the video before inserting in Storyline

In your course, the video on slide 1.3 was set to "mute". You can change this by clicking on the video in the timeline then going up to the tool bar and selecting Video Tools Options > Video Volume > Low. Take a peek at the GIF below for reference on how to change this setting.

 settings

Once I changed that setting to "low" the audio in your file played as expected in the HTML5 output which you can view here.  I've also attached the version of your file that I made the change to here.

I don't have any updates from QA on this issue at this time, however this thread has been added to the report. Since you're subscribed here, you'll receive notifications of updates when applicable. :)

Thank you Ali, I am so happy to have this figured out, and a way to work around it.

When you tested the file on the iPad did you notice it looking really small on the screen? The other problem I have having is when I launch the file on an iPad in my LMS the window it plays in make the storyline file really small and puts it in the  bottom left of the screen? do you have any suggestions as to why this might be happening? or something I might be missing? I attached two images to a comment above that show what I am taking about.

Again Thank you so much to the great help:)

Good Morning Melissa! So glad you found that workaround helpful. :)

Thanks again for providing those screenshots of the displaying issue you're seeing. When I uploaded the above version of your course to SCORM Cloud to test using the settings you provided in an earlier screenshot , I'm not able to reproduce that issue on an iPad. Take a look at your course here and let me know if you see that behavior on your end.

If the issue is limited to your LMS, I would recommend reaching out to them for further troubleshooting on it. Keep me posted!
