Videos and Links not publishing
Sep 16, 2016
I am happy to say my first attempt at a module is nearly complete. However, I'm a having a problem with my test publishing. I've published to web and cd and when I do, the hyperlinks and imbedded web object are not functioning. The web object frame doesn't appear and the links are not clickable. This course will ultimately be published to an LMS but I don't have access to run a test publish through that system. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

I assume you test locally (on your harddrive). In that case links and remote videos will not work. You can use any of the free hosting options listed here for testing on a server.
Hi Taryn- Congratulations on completing your first course! Always an awesome feeling :)
Michael's right, if you view an Articulate Storyline course on your local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail. Since you mentioned it will eventually be running in an LMS, I would recommend testing it in SCORM Cloud as it's an industry standard. You can set up a free account for testing purposes. Check out this tutorial as well for how to upload to SCORM.
If you're still seeing these issues after testing it in SCORM Cloud, you can attach your .story file to a comment right in this thread and I would be happy to take a look. Thanks!
Thanks for the advice! The links are working now that I have published as a SCORM and tested in a SCORM cloud environment. However, the embedded video is bringing up a Security Content warning which I have attached. When I click view all content, it opens a new browser window, closes, my module, and returns me to the SCORM cloud launch site.
Hey there Taryn!
Thanks for the update here, so glad that advice was helpful for you. For this new issue, would you mind verifying if you're on the latest version of Storyline 2, update 10? You can check your version by going to Help > About Articulate Storyline. I found a similar issue in a post over here that seemed to be cleared up once the software was updated and the course republished. You may also want to take a peak at Alexandros' reply in regards to browser security settings as well.
If you're still having this issue after going through those, would you mind sharing your .story file here so I can do some testing? Thanks again!
Sadly, I'm still back in the dark ages with Storyline Version 1. I decided to do a workaround and made a clickable box for viewers to go to the web page to view the story and the video if they want (now that I got the URL links to work)
Thanks for letting me know and for sharing that workaround here, Taryn! So happy that you were able to find a solution. :) Don't hesitate to reach out if you have further questions!
