Trina, your post has stirred up the great comments it deserves, but I have to defend the range of ways in which we all approach our projects. Whether we use SAM or Addie, we can still have some (or all) of the problems you attribute to the "old" and "waterfall" approach of ADDIE. Projects can get stalled, insufficiently tested and all matter of other ills, and no variation of any method can substitute for a clear notion of the problem(s) and the resources needed to solve it/them. ADDIE or SAMMIE or whatever approach works for you is only as good as one's understanding of the learner's needs and how those needs can best be served.
