Choose Your Own E-Learning Challenge #288: Challenge | Recap

Challenge of the Week

This week, your challenge is to choose your own e-learning challenge topic and build an example for that challenge. You can choose any e-learning, instructional design, multimedia, or industry-based topic you like.

Your topic can be based on any of the previous challenges or you can come up with something entirely different. Your entry just might inspire the next e-learning challenge!

Include Your Topic with Your Entry

When you post your link to your example, please tell us your challenge topic by introducing your entry with, “This week, my challenge was to. . . ." This will help others know what to look for when viewing your example.

New Entries Only!

There’s only one catch.... You didn’t think I’d give away total control, did you? This week’s entry must be original. You can’t reuse an example you shared in a previous challenge.

But you’re welcome to do a variation on a previous challenge. For example, if you want to share a Tabs Challenge #272, your challenge could be something more specific, like a Vertical Tabs, or Image-Based Tabs. Then you could modify something you shared in a previous challenge.

Last Week’s Challenge:

Before you choose your topic, check out the interactive table examples your fellow community members shared over the past week:

New to the E-Learning Challenges?

The weekly e-learning challenges are ongoing opportunities to learn, share, and build your e-learning portfolios. You can jump into any or all of the previous challenges anytime you want. I’ll update the recap posts to include your demos.

Hi Everyone! Fantastic entries so far, well done! Initially, I thought to submit a quiz I am working on, but then I thought...what's a challenge I would think of to do differently in terms of display, and I thought of the next button. Here is my idea. Link to project: https://bit.ly/2AFbSnr :)

I like how the eyeballs move depending on where the user is hovering! You've given me some ideas!

The bee is back! The dramatic SWOOSH sound really caught my attention in your demo.

I like the idea of eyeballs move on hovering. So cute. Good job!

I really enjoyed seeing how the kitchen scene corrected itself when you clicked on the hazards. I think to take it a step further, perhaps after you've identified a hazard, a popup appears explaining why it's a hazard in the kitchen? Great work!

That's a great tip! That would definitely help learners better understand the hazards. Thank you, Kimberly and Joanne, I will try to add that :)

I like the visual design and the interaction way you use. And I concur with Kimberly that if there is a popup message for explaining why, that will make it more educational since some people might just blind clicking everywhere(I know my son will).

Seeing the donut chart fill based on my responses piqued my interest to complete the quiz. For someone who can be a little indecisive, I think I would've liked to have had the option to select a different radio button instead of having it locked onto my first choice. I'd be interested in seeing the quiz results!

Thank you Kimberly! I score the results by having a variable that adds a number to the value when a radio button is selected. If I allow people to select a different button, it just keeps adding value to the variable. I've tried many things, but I've never found a way to fix this. If you know of a way to correct that, I would be SO happy to hear it!

      Hi Kristin,

I like the interaction and how it is put together. The colors are vibrant and engaging and the photo is relevant yet humorous.

We I answered "Exceptional" for all it gave me a score of 100% but the graphic showed something like 12%. Not sure why.

Thank you for pointing that out Ron, I didn’t realize it was doing that. I couldn’t seem to figure out why until I was writing my response to you and realized that the problem was as follows:

On this slide I take the total score, divide by 15 and multiply by 100. For a perfect score, this will display a percentage of 100%, but 15 divided by 15 is 1, so the donut display thought it was supposed to display the result for 1 point. It’s not possible to score “1” on the final slide, so I just changed the state for “1” to the state for a perfect score. Good learning experience for me!
  • I haven't been participate for the weekly challenge for a long time. I always want to try a 3D effect in SL. I know some talented heroes had done 3D effect by dragging slide or dial before, so here I want to do a little different. My challenge was to make 3D clockwise/counterclockwise rotation by holding left-button mouse on different side of screens. And it will keep rotating until releasing the mouse.

So this week, my challenge was to create a 3D rotation effect by holding left-button mouse on right/left screen side.

Thanks Ron. There are 36 pictures, one image per 10 degree.

So interesting! I always neglect the "down" state on buttons and objects and this gives me some ideas to try in a demo. Thank you for sharing it.
  • Here is my challenge. It is really small in comparison to all of the amazing entries that have gone before me, but it was a challenge for me.
Some of my storyline build skills are rusty, and a recent job for a client had me in a panic. They had designed the course themselves; I just needed to build it. But they wanted a carousel, that could also work as a tabbed interaction.
After a lot of trial and error, I had the following interaction created...

As always, your thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.

Justine, I really like this. It looks great and it acts just like I would expect from your description. Very smooth! I hope your client was happy.
