Health & Wellness E-Learning Mini-Courses #492: Challenge | Recap

I’ve been getting a lot of questions about building a strong e-learning portfolio. My go-to response? Participate in the e-learning challenges at least once a month. By the end of the year, you’ll have 12 solid examples to showcase!

However, a few people have asked for something more comprehensive than standalone examples, so this week we’re stepping it up. We’ll create a mini-course on employee health and wellness. You can update past work to fit this new theme.

For example, if you’ve created a slider, dial, or tab interaction before, rework it to match the style of this mini-course. Use these elements as the interactive or content pieces for the course, and keep the visual style consistent.

This way, you’re not just adding standalone examples to your portfolio; you’re building a more cohesive project that shows you can tackle bigger, more comprehensive pieces.

🏆 Challenge of the Week

This week, your challenge is to create and share a 5-slide mini-course on a health and wellness topic you’re passionate about.

Incorporate a mix of informational content and interactive elements to keep learners engaged while using different content and/or block types.

Demo Content Ideas

The default Rise Employee Health and Wellness course is a great resource to kick things off, but feel free to create your own unique take if that’s more your style.

View the Rise course | View the Storyline version

Example Topics

You can choose any employee health-related topic you like.. Here are a few additional topics to help you get started:

  • Stress Management Basics
  • Introduction to Mindful Eating
  • Sleep Hygiene 101
  • Beginner's Guide to Home Workouts
  • Understanding Mental Health Basics
  • Healthy Habits Formation

Suggested Interactive Elements Ideas

You can use any mix of content and interactions you like. One idea is to rework previous challenge entries you’ve shared and rebrand them for this week’s challenge.

  • Multiple choice questions
  • True/False quizzes
  • Drag-and-drop exercises
  • Interactive objects (sliders, dials, scrolling panels, interactive markers)
  • Knowledge checks

✨ Share Your E-Learning Work

  • Comments: Use the comments section below to link your published example and blog post.
  • Forums: Start a new discussion and share a link to your published example.
  • Personal blog: If you have a blog, please consider writing about your challenges. We'll link to your posts so your great work gets even more exposure.
  • Social media: Please share your examples on LinkedIn, mentioning either David or Articulate, and include the tag #ElearningChallenge. This makes it easier for me to find your examples and helps you connect with other e-learning designers.

📆 Upcoming Challenges

Challenge #493: Interactive business models. Remember the challenge we did on Demming's Red Bead experiement? That's the goal for this challenge. Only you can choose any business model you like. Some common models include:

  • The Beer Game (Beer Distribution Game)
  •  Lean Manufacturing Simulations
  • The Marshmallow Challenge
  • The Paper Clip Production Game
  • The Penny Game

Challenge #494: TikTok style learning videos. Sure, we tackled this challenge two years ago, but it’s still one of the most popular topics. With all the buzz around TikTok lately, now feels like the perfect time to revisit it.

  • Bonjour Heroes.

Here's a demo of 5 slides plus the introduction. Playing with cards seemed to me a good illustration of the subject: you can start with a good or bad hand, but you can also play well or badly.
The quiz is a bit special. It can appear at any time. None of you will see it in the same place at the same time. Because you can't know in advance when an emergency will occur.

I like the card analogy Thierry, and using them for the categories. The tips makes one think.

I liked the character/story setup to get vested, the quizzing to help you see what you might not know, and calculation for personal intake. The aesthetics are engaging.

I like everything about your demo, Kate. The graphics and animation, as well as the precise way in which the information is conveyed. Of course, I prefer to drink a good craft beer, but according to the final calculator... it's too much. So, water.

Craft beer is great, but sometimes the numbers tell us otherwise. 😅 Thanks for the kind words — glad you liked the demo!

Thoroughly enjoyed your demo and went to get water right away! :)

Can I ask, where do you create/source your illustrations?

A lovely mini-course that explains what you need to know clearly and simply, Elizabeth. The colors and images make it soothing. A successful first attempt.

Hi everyone 🌞 This is one module from a series for golf professionals. It's one slide with five layers. There's an active hotspot in the upper right corner if you get tired of listening to the narration and want to hide the layer 😉 I really enjoyed adding a project to my portfolio!
